On The Fly: ETF fund flow highlights
Creations were greater than redemptions by a factor of over 1.9 to 1 per data from ETF.com On the creations side inflows were dominated by bonds with the Vanguard Short-Term Bond ETF (BSV) and iShares TIPS Bond ETF (TIP) summing to over 37% of inflows. The Invesco QQQ Trust (QQQ) was the dominant equity index product of the week at over 17.7% of flows. Global equity in aggregate nearly matched that at 17.6% of creations to the iShares Global Tech ETF (IXN) and the Vanguard Total Stock Market ETF (VTI). The SPDR S&P 500 ETF Trust (SPY) was just over 8.5% of inflows. On the redemptions side bonds were an even-larger factor at over 46% of outflows. Those redemptions were from the iShares U.S. Treasury Bond ETF (GOVT), iShares 1-5 Year Investment Grade Corporate Bond ETF (IGSB), and iShares 7-10 Year Treasury Bond ETF (IEF). Momentum and the Russell 2000 both saw significant redemptions at 13.7% and 11.3% respectively from the iShares MSCI USA Momentum Factor ETF (MTUM) and iShares Russell 2000 ETF (IWM).
