"Box Office Battle" is The Fly's weekly roundup of what movies topped the weekend's box office.
Warner Bros. (WBD) “Don’t Worry Darling” won the weekend at the North American box office with a domestic debut of $19.2M. Overseas, the high-profile drama took in $10.8M from over 60 markets for a global start of $30M. The movie, which has faced several controversies, received a B- CinemaScore from audiences and sports a 35% critics’ score on Rotten Tomatoes.
BOX OFFICE RUNNER-UPS: Sony’s (SONY) TriStar division and eOne’s “The Woman King” placed number 2 with an estimated $11.1M from 3,765 locations. Behind it was the re-release of Disney’s (DIS) “Avatar,” grossing $10M from 1,860 theaters. Another Disney title, “Barbarian,” placed number 4 with $4.8M. Rounding out the top five, the horror-slasher “Pearl,” grossing $3.1M from 2,935 locations in its debut weekend. Disney’s “See How They Run” earned an estimated $1.9M from 2,502 theaters.
