Welcome to "Box Office Battle," The Fly's weekly preview projecting what the top films will be at the box office this weekend.
NO MAJOR RELEASES THIS WEEKEND: There are no new wide releases this weekend, which led Box Office Mojo to predict this weekend may be the lowest grossing weekend of the year so far.
RALPH LOOKING AT TOP SPOT AGAIN: It is looking likely that, for the third weekend in a row, Disney's (DIS) "Ralph Breaks the Internet," the sequel to 2012 cartoon "Wreck-It Ralph" starring John C. Reilly and Sarah Silverman, will take the top spot at the box office.
TOP FIVE ALSO LIKELY TO STAY THE SAME: Comcast (CMCSA, CMCSK) subsidiary Universal's animated Christmas movie "Dr. Seuss' The Grinch" is expected to take second place this weekend as the holiday draws nearer. MGM's boxing film "Creed II," starring Michael B. Jordan, which took second place last weekend, is anticipated to finish third. AT&T (T) subsidiary Warner Bros' "Fantastic Beasts: The Crimes of Grindelwald" and 21st Century Fox's (FOX, FOXA) "Bohemian Rhapsody" are expected to round out the weekend's top five.
OVERALL PROJECTIONS:
1. Ralph Breaks the Internet: $15M-$16M
2. Dr. Seuss' The Grinch: ~$12.5M
3. Creed II: ~$11M
4. Fantastic Beasts: The Crimes of Grindelwald: ~$6M
5. Bohemian Rhapsody: ~6M
