ALITA LOOKS TO TOP LEGO MOVIE 2: 21st Century Fox's (FOX, FOXA) futuristic action film "Alita: Battle Angel," written and produced by James Cameron and directed by Robert Rodriguez, is opening this weekend and looking to take the top spot from AT&T (T) subsidiary Warner Bros' "The LEGO Movie 2." "Alita," which had a production budget of $175M, is looking at domestically grossing $26.5M over the four-day holiday weekend, which is similar to how "LEGO Movie 2" is tracking. Note that "Alita" has already released internationally and brought in $35.6M to date from 11 markets, and is adding 74 additional markets this weekend.
OTHER FILMS OPENING THIS WEEKEND: Looking to compete for third place this weekend are the other two new major releases, Comcast (CMCSA, CMCSK) subsidiary Universal's horror film "Happy Death Day 2U" and Warner Bros' romantic comedy "Isn't It Romantic," starring Rebel Wilson.
