Welcome to "Box Office Battle," The Fly's weekly preview projecting what the top films will be at the box office this weekend.
'ALADDIN' LOOKS TO TAKE TOP SPOT: Disney's (DIS) live-action remake of "Aladdin" rolls out this weekend, with the media giant looking for a strong opening months after the downbeat performance for "Dumbo," which released earlier this year. "Aladdin" is expected to end the weekend at the number one spot, with an anticipated four-day domestic gross of $75M-$85M, according to Box Office Mojo. The release marks the second time Disney debuted a live action film based on an animated feature over the Memorial Day weekend, the previous time being 2016's "Alice Through the Looking Glass."
'JOHN WICK' SEEN TO STAY AHEAD OF 'AVENGERS': Lionsgate's (LGF.A, LGF.B) "John Wick: Chapter 3 - Parabellum" is expected to end the weekend in second place after taking the top spot at the box office last weekend. The action film, starring Keanu Reeves, is anticipated to achieve a domestic gross in its second weekend of roughly $24M, which would put it past Disney's "Avengers: Endgame" for the second week in a row. "Endgame," which has already grossed of $2.62B worldwide, is expected to come in third place this weekend, ahead of Warner Bros. (T) "Pokemon Detective Pikachu."
