Welcome to "Box Office Battle," The Fly's weekly preview projecting what the top films will be at the box office this weekend.
TWO NEW FILMS OPENING: This weekend sees the release of STX Entertainment's drama "Hustlers," which was inspired by a true story and stars Jennifer Lopez, Constance Wu, and Julia Stiles, and AT&T (T) subsidiary Warner Bros.' drama "The Goldfinch," adapted from a 2013 novel of the same name. The critical receptions of the two films diverge, with "Hustlers" at a "Certified Fresh" 88% approval at Rotten Tomatoes, while "The Goldfinch" sits at just 26% positive.
'IT: CHAPTER TWO' EXPECTED TO KEEP TOP SPOT: Neither of this weekend's new entries are likely to overtake Warner Bros.' horror film sequel "It: Chapter Two," which is playing at 4,570 theaters, and expected to drop around 59% in its second weekend at theaters to around $37M, which would bring the total domestic gross to $150M by the end of the weekend.
