"Box Office Battle" is The Fly's weekly roundup of what movies topped the weekend's box office.
In the biggest opening of all time for specialty distributor Focus Features, "Downton Abbey" won weekend box office with a better than expected $31M from 3,079 locations. Overseas, the movie earned $30.8M from 32 markets for an early global haul of $61.8M. The pic received an A CinemaScore and 85% on Rotten Tomatoes.
BOX OFFICE RUNNERS-UP: Disney (DIS) subsidiary Fox's "Ad Astra" came in second, opening to $19.2M from 3,960 theaters. Behind it was Lionsgate's (LGF.A) "Rambo: Last Blood," grossing $19M from 3,618 sites. AT&T (T) subsidiary Warner Bros.' "It: Chapter Two" placed number four, earning $17.2M in its third weekend from 4,156 theaters. Rounding out the top five, STXFilms' "Hustlers" grossed $17M from 3,525 locations in its second weekend.
