Welcome to "Box Office Battle," The Fly's weekly preview projecting what the top films will be at the box office this weekend.
OPENING THIS WEEKEND: Among this weekend's new releases is Focus Features' (CMCSA) legal thriller "Dark Waters," which stars Mark Ruffalo, Anne Hathaway, and Tim Robbins. The movie is expected to finished outside the top five this weekend at the box office with a domestic gross of about $4.5M. Also out this weekend is STX's "Playmobil: The Movie," an animated film based on the German building toy. The movie, which releases this weekend in the United States after coming out in August in France, is anticipated to finish ninth at the box office with a domestic gross of about $2.5M.
STILL PLAYING: Disney's (DIS) animated feature "Frozen II" is expected to maintain the top spot at the box office for the third weekend in a row after delivering the largest three and five-day Thanksgiving performance ever. Meanwhile, last weekend's runners-up are seen to remain in the top five for the second weekend in a row, including Lionsgate's (LGF.A) "Knives Out," 20th Century Fox's (FOX) "Ford v Ferrari," Universal Pictures' "Queen & Slim," and Sony Pictures' (SNE) "A Beautiful Day in the Neighborhood."
