"Box Office Battle" is The Fly's weekly roundup of what movies topped the weekend's box office.
Disney's (DIS) "Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker" won this weekend's North American box office with $175.5M, earning $373.5M globally. The movie is, however, the first "Star Wars" pic made by Lucasfilm and Disney not to earn an A or A- from audiences. "The Rise of Skywalker" sports a B+ CinemaScore and a 57% Rotten Tomatoes rating.
BOX OFFICE RUNNERS-UP: Sony's (SNE) "Jumanji: The Next Level" earned $26.1M in its second outing to pass the $100M threshold domestically and $312M globally. Behind it was Disney's "Frozen II," grossing $12.3M domestically and another $31.6M overseas. Comcast's (CMCSK, CMCSA) "Cats" placed number four, earning $6.5M in its debut weekend. Rounding out the top five, Lionsgate (LGF.A, LGF.B) "Knives Out" took another $6.1M in its fourth weekend for a global cume of $185.6M.
