"Box Office Battle" is The Fly's weekly roundup of what movies topped the weekend's box office.
AT&T (T) subsidiary Warner Bros.' "Space Jam: A New Legacy" won this weekend's domestic box office with a better-than-expected debut of $31.7M from 3,956 locations. Overseas, the movie opened to $23M from 64 territories for a global start of $54.7M as numerous markets are still impacted by the pandemic. The live-action/animated film is also available on HBO Max.
BOX OFFICE RUNNERS-UP: Disney's (DIS) "Black Widow" fell to number 2 in its second outing, earning an estimated $26.3M for a domestic cume of $132M. Behind it was Sony's (SONY) "Escape Room: Champion of Tournaments" with a $8.8M debut from 2,815 theaters. Comcast (CMCSA) subsidiary Universal's "F9: The Fast Saga" placed number 4 with $7.6M. Rounding out the top five, DreamWorks Animation's sequel "The Boss Baby: Family Business" grossed an estimated $4.7M.
