Cleveland Research analyst Rob Eich said he hears "growing rumblings" within the industry that a large dental manufacturer will likely explore going direct to buyers in some capacity over the next 18 months, which would likely accelerate the deterioration of the full-service distribution model. Industry talk indicates this top manufacturer "will be direct in the U.S. with 2,000 sales reps," which would be a level of market coverage akin to Patterson Companies (PDCO) and Henry Schein (HSIC), Eich quotes a source as having said.
