William Blair noted that the American College of Obstetricians and Gynecologists updated its committee opinion on noninvasive prenatal testing, or NIPT, last Friday, stating that its comments provided a "very lukewarm" endorsement of NIPT testing for all pregnant women and that screening should not be performed at all for microdeletions. The firm views the comments as short of what industry bulls had hoped for and as unlikely to create significant physician demand for the test in the large average-risk/low-risk pregnant population. William Blair, however, said it remains positive on Sequenom as a whole and keeps its Outperform rating on the stock.
