Piper Sandler analyst James Fish says his Q4 Infrastructure and Communication Software channel survey of 35 partners skewed more positively towards software-led vendors over hardware infrastructure players. The channel survey would suggest earnings upside is most likely for VMware (VMW), Akamai (AKAM), and Nutanix (NTNX), with VMware, Nutanix and Cisco Systems (CSCO) having the strongest pipelines, Fish tells investors in a research note. The analyst remains most concerned about Juniper Networks (JNPR), NetScout (NTCT), and Commvault (CVLT) for a miss in Q4. Fish's top picks remain Akamai, Cloudflare (NET), and RingCentral (RNG), though the survey results make him "incrementally more positive" on VMware, Zoom Video (ZM), and Arista Networks (ANET). The survey makes him "incrementally more negative" on LogMeln (LOGM), Juniper and Commvault. Fish also introduced a pair trade idea of long VMware, short Juniper into the Q4 earnings reports given the survey's results.
