Welcome to "Box Office Battle," The Fly's weekly preview projecting what the top films will be at the box office this weekend.
OPENING THIS WEEKEND: Disney's (DIS) release of 20th Century's family adventure film "The Call of the Wild," starring Harrison Ford and based on the classic Jack London novel, is opening this weekend at 3,752 theaters. The movie has already earned $1M in Thursday evening previews, and is expected to open in the $17.5M-$20M range domestically.
STILL PLAYING: In its second weekend at theaters, and expected to again take the top box office spot, is ViacomCBS (VIAC) subsidiary Paramount's live-action video game adaptation "Sonic the Hedgehog." The movie, which is playing in 4,198 theaters, is expecting to earn another $30M this weekend. In its third weekend at theaters, and expected to fall to third place, is AT&T (T) subsidiary Warner Bros.' superhero flick "Birds of Prey," starring Margot Robbie as the DC Comics character Harley Quinn.
