"Box Office Battle" is The Fly's weekly roundup of what movies topped the weekend's box office.
Sony's (SONY) "Ghostbusters: Afterlife" easily won this weekend's domestic box office with a better-than-expected $44M from 4,315 locations. Overseas, the direct sequel to the 1984 original "Ghostbusters" earned $16M from 31 markets for a worldwide total of $60M.
BOX OFFICE RUNNER-UPS: Disney's (DIS) and Marvel's "Eternals" placed number 2 with $10.8M in its third weekend. Behind it was ViacomCBS (VIAC) subsidiary Paramount's "Clifford the Big Red Dog" with $8.1M in its second outing for a domestic cume of $33.5M. The movie is also playing on Paramount+. AT&T (T) subsidiary Warner Bros.' "King Richard" placed number 4 with a $5.7M debut. Rounding out the top five, Warner Bros.' "Dune" grossed an estimated $3.1M in its fifth weekend for a domestic total of $98.2M.
