"Box Office Battle" is The Fly's weekly roundup of what movies topped the weekend's box office.
Warner Bros. (WBD) and Legendary's "Godzilla x Kong: The New Empire" won the Easter weekend at the North American box office with an $80M debut, well ahead of the expected $45M-$50M. Overseas, the movie earned $114M for a $194M global launch. "Godzilla x Kong" might not have enchanted many critics, but the audiences gave it an A- CinemaScore.
BOX OFFICE RUNNER-UPS: Sony's (SONY) "Ghostbusters: Frozen Empire" placed number two with another $15.7M for a domestic tally of $73.5M and $108.5M globally. Behind it was Warner Bros. and Legendary's "Dune: Part Two" with an estimated $11.1M in its third outing for a total of $252.4M. Comcast (CMCSA) subsidiary Universal's "Kung Fu Panda 4" placed number four with $10.2M for a domestic cume of $151.7M. Rounding out the top fiver, Neon's specialty horror movie "Immaculate" with Sydney Sweeney grossed an estimated $3.3M in its second weekend for a domestic tally of $11M.
