HOW TO TRAIN YOUR DRAGON OPENING STRONG: Comcast (CMCSA, CMCSK) subsidiary Universal Pictures' release of DreamWorks Animation's "How to Train Your Dragon: The Hidden World" has already brought in a strong $3M from Thursday previews. The animated sequel, which is the third in the series, is expected to earn $43M-$45M in its domestic opening at 4,259 theaters. Note that the film has already grossed over $181M internationally from 49 markets, where it opened at #1 in 40 of them.
STILL IN THEATERS: 21st Century Fox's (FOX, FOXA) futuristic action film "Alita: Battle Angel," written and produced by James Cameron and directed by Robert Rodriguez, is looking at second place in its second weekend at theaters, with an estimated gross of ~$15M this weekend. This is expected to be ahead of AT&T (T) subsidiary Warner Bros' animated "The LEGO Movie 2," which is expected to add in the range of $11M-$12M to its domestic total of over $72M, in its third weekend at theaters.
