SoftBank eyes acquisitions to create $300B asset-management arm, Bloomberg says
SoftBank Group (SFTBF) is looking at further acquisitions in the financial sector in an effort to establish a $300B asset management arm that would include its $93B Vision Fund over the next four to five years, Bloomberg reports, citing people familiar with the matter. SoftBank, which agreed to acquire Fortress Investment Group (FIG) for $3.3B in February, is mulling investments in the space such as acquiring traditional investment firms or taking stakes in major private equity shops like KKR (KKR). Wells Fargo 'surprised' tower stocks didn't react to SoftBank news
After it was reported that SoftBank (SFTBF) and Australian real estate company Lendlease formed a joint venture to purchase 8,000 cell tower sites in the U.S., Wells Fargo analyst Jennifer Fritzsche said she was "surprised" that tower company stocks did not react to this news. She had already thought if a T-Mobile (TMUS) and Sprint (S) merger deal was followed by T-Mobile CTO Neville Ray talking about network savings that the tower stocks "could take a hit," and this news may have given him "a much bigger arrow" in that quiver, she tells investors. Publicly traded tower companies include American Tower (AMT), Crown Castle (CCI) and SBA (SBAC).

KeyBanc says Softbank JV won't compete with primary business of tower operators
KeyBanc said it does not view Softbank's (SFTBF) joint venture with Australia's Lendlease as competitive to the tower operators' primary business, noting that the venture is likely to focus on rooftop sites in urban markets, but tower businesses generate the vast majority of their revenue on sites located outside urban areas. Publicly traded tower companies include American Tower (AMT), Crown Castle (CCI) and SBA (SBAC).

WWE price target raised to $46 from $36 at BTIG
BTIG analyst Brandon Ross raised his price target on WWE (WWE) to $46, citing the company's confidence that they can come to an agreement on renewing the rights to their Raw and SmackDown programs which are set to expire in Q3 of 2019. The analyst adds that he has turned "more bullish" regarding the outcome of these negotiations over the past several weeks, suggesting the demand for live programming could lead to emergence of interested bidders among digital platforms such as Facebook (FB).

Facebook Q1 earnings unlikely to be positive catalyst, says Deutsche Bank
Deutsche Bank analyst Lloyd Walmsley sees Facebook Q1 earnings report as unlikely to be a positive catalyst for shares given that the stock has already rebounded considerably from recent lows. Further, investors are unlikely to get meaningful comfort around the impact of Europe's General Data Protection Regulation until the Q2 report, Walmsley tells investors in a pre-earnings research note. He also wouldn't be surprised to hear a "cautious revenue outlook" from Facebook on the call. However, looking out longer term, the analyst sees Facebook shares as attractive. Walmsley keeps a Buy rating on the name.

Facebook price target lowered to $230 at Credit Suisse ahead of Q1 report
Credit Suisse analyst Stephen Ju lowered his price target on Facebook to $230 from $240 ahead of the company's Q1 earnings release on April 25. In a research note to investors, Ju, who has an Outperform rating on shares, said he "struggles for reasons as to why" his near-to-medium term estimates should materially change following advertiser conversations, which suggest little in the way of changes to budget allocations to Facebook, as well as OpEx and CapEx guidance parameters, which require the company to spend an incremental $15B. Stepping back from the recent controversy, Ju said he remains a buyer of Facebook shares and notes that his long-term thesis has not really changed.

Facebook Q1 results should be above consensus, says Wedbush
Wedbush analyst Michael Pachter expects Facebook's Q1 results above consensus estimates driven by continued audience and engagement growth, with an overall minimal impact from heightened scrutiny over privacy concerns. Notwithstanding heightened scrutiny and elevated legislative and regulatory risk, the analyst expects Facebook to weather the controversy surrounding its Cambridge Analytica data breach, and to continue to invest in various initiatives, with the majority, if not all, of those initiatives generating substantial EBITDA growth in years to come. Pachter reiterates an Outperform rating and $260 price target on the shares.

Amazon gaining apparel market share in U.S., says Morgan Stanley
Morgan Stanley analyst Brian Nowak said his analysis shows that Amazon (AMZN) gained 1.5% of U.S. apparel market share in 2017, largely at the expense of department stores. He estimates Amazon is the second largest U.S. apparel retailer, trailing only Walmart (WMT), and expects the e-commerce giant to take the number one spot in terms of U.S. apparel market share in 2018. Cumulatively, Nowak estimates Sears (SHLD), Macy's (M) and J.C. Penney (JCP) lost 0.8% share in 2017, with shareholdings remaining roughly flat for Target (TGT) and Kohl's (KSS). He maintains an Overweight rating and $1,550 price target on Amazon shares.

Nomura Instinet puts Reduce rating on Dropbox with $21 price target
Nomura Instinet analyst Christopher Eberle last night initiated Dropbox (DBX) with a Reduce rating and $21 price target. The shares closed yesterday up 95c to $33.27. Dropbox's "consistently low" penetration rates, "extremely low" conversion rates, and lack of enterprise salesforce creates little room for upside potential, Eberle tells investors in a research note. If trends do not improve, the shares have "significant downside," the analyst argues. Eberle admits, however, that Dropbox has positioned itself as a top player in the backup storage and workplace collaboration space. The company is a "staunch competitor" to Microsoft's (MSFT) OneDrive, Google's (GOOG, GOOGL) Drive and Apple's (AAPL) iCloud, Eberle contends.

Nomura Instinet ups Square price target to $65 on bitcoin boost
Nomura Instinet analyst Dan Dolev raised his price target for Square (SQ) shares to $65 from $64 saying the impact from bitcoin could be meaningful. The stock closed yesterday up $2.10 to $49.13. Opening Square Cash for bitcoin trading earlier this year could drive a "sizable boost" to revenue and profits, driving up to 10% potential upside to adjusted EBITDA guidance, Dolev tells investors in a research note. He sees bitcoin as helping to offset Square's rising investment costs to broaden its international presence. In asking if bitcoin will reshape the future of payments as Square CEO Jack Dorsey often argues, or if it will just be a passing fad, Dolev points out that the company's correlation with the cryptocurrency has been on a downward trend. Square shares are now less correlated with bitcoin than PayPal (PYPL), the payment networks or Alphabet (GOOG, GOOGL), Dolev contends. He maintains a Buy rating on Square.

Alphabet price target lowered to $1,350 from $1,400 at Credit Suisse
Credit Suisse analyst Stephen Ju lowered his price target for Alphabet's Class A shares to $1,350 from $1,400 ahead of quarterly results. The analyst has rebuilt his Google model to add incremental segment granularity and to hopefully better forecast given discrepancies in regional growth rates across all of its many products. Ju has also moderated our YouTube TV revenue estimates as his prior projection had contemplated a global rollout and he now assumes this service will be U.S. only. Tesla the 'ultimate high-risk name in autos,' says Morgan Stanley
Morgan Stanley analyst Adam Jonas, in a note titled "Tesla's Next Move: $200 or $400?," said he sees the next three months as the most critical period in Tesla's history since the launch of the Model S six years ago, making the stock "the ultimate high-risk name in autos." Jonas estimates that the consensus view on Model 3 production reaching 5,000 per week "is somewhere around 3Q'18 or 4Q'18 at this point," but he doesn't expect a 5K/week run-rate to be achieved before late in the fourth quarter. Ahead of Tesla's upcoming Q1 earnings report, Jonas trimmed his price target on the stock to $376 from $379 and keeps an Equal Weight rating on Tesla shares.

Hertz lack of 2018 guidance shouldn't be a surprise, says Morgan Stanley
Morgan Stanley analyst Adam Jonas said the fact that Hertz management did not provide financial guidance for 2018 should not be a surprise as the car rental industry "doesn't grow" and the company has total debt "far greater" than its total revenue. He believes management commentary on 2018 suggests elevated turnaround and transition expenses will continue before an improvement in 2019. Jonas, who still thinks Hertz may need to consider significant structural changes given the challenges facing the traditional car rental business model, keeps an Underweight rating on Hertz shares.
