Stephens lowers building products outlook, downgrades four stocks
Stephens analyst Trey Grooms downgraded his view on the building products space given that new housing construction is beginning to flatten and he sees the potential for recent interest rate moves and affordability constraints to further impact new residential demand. While he would expect the lumber distributors to have a solid margin benefit in Q3 from the move up in lumber prices, next year this will be a headwind, Grooms tells investors. He also thinks that insulation installers/distributors will continue to benefit from the strong housing starts seen earlier this year, but slowing starts "will catch up" with them in 2019. As previously reported, he lowered his ratings on four stocks in the space - BMC Stock Holdings (BMCH), Builders FirstSource (BLDR), Installed Building Products (IBP) and TopBuild (BLD) - all to Equal Weight from Overweight. Grooms lowered his price target on BMC Stock to $19 from $26, cut his target on Builders FirstSource to $19 from $21, keeps his $37 price target on Installed and leaves his target on TopBuild at $52.

Baird downgrades industrial and building distributors as cyclical risks rise
As previously reported, Baird analyst David Manthey downgraded several industrial supply distributors and building products distributors based on elevated later-cycle risks. The analyst thinks the cycle and individual company results could remain solid for quarters or years to come, but he believes the cycle is in its later stages, thereby elevating risks to gross margins, rising labor costs, and earnings deceleration in 2019. Manthey downgraded Watsco (WSO), SiteOne Landscape (SITE), Pool (POOL), Fastenal (FAST), BMC Stock Holdings (BMCH), Grainger (GWW) and GMS (GMS), all to Neutral from Outperform. He lowered his price target on Grainger to $318 from $327 and also lowered his price target on Beacon Roofing (BECN) to $59 from $68. Fly Intel: Today's top analyst calls on Wall Street
Check out today's top analyst calls from around Wall Street, compiled by The Fly. CITI CUTS TESLA TO SELL: Citi analyst Itay Michaeli downgraded Tesla (TSLA) to Sell from Neutral and lowered his price target for the shares to $225 from $356. The analyst is making a "risk/reward call" into the outcome of the SEC lawsuit against CEO Elon Musk. In a scenario where the suit leads to Musk's exit, the analyst says there is "little question" that the departure would likely cause harm to Tesla's brand, stakeholder confidence and fundraising. This would increase the risk of triggering a "downward confidence spiral" given the state of Tesla's balance sheet, Michaeli said. Even if Musk were to stay on after settling or prevailing, the analyst believes the "reputational harm" from the suit "might still prevent the stock from immediately returning to 'normal.'" SUNTRUST UPGRADES LOWE'S TO BUY: SunTrust analyst Keith Hughes upgraded Lowe's (LOW) to Buy from Hold and raised his price target to $138 from $110. The analyst cites the company's latest Q2 earnings and the analyst meeting with its management suggesting an "internally focused" turnaround progressing at a "consistent pace" over the next 2-3 years. Hughes adds that even though the stock has recently turned higher, it could rise as much as 50% if the company could reclaim just half of the SG&A difference with Home Depot (HD). STIFEL STARTS ZYNGA WITH A BUY: Stifel analyst Drew Crum initiated Zynga (ZNGA) with a Buy rating and a price target of $5. The analyst cites the "favorable industry for mobile gaming", with annualized mobile gaming revenue expected to increase by 17%. Crum also cites his expectations of greater visibility on its game pipeline and further opportunities to improve adjusted EBITDA. WELLS DOWNGRADES CONTAINERSHIP NAMES: Wells Fargo analyst Michael Webber downgraded the Box Lessor and Containership group saying headwinds from both the International Maritime Organization 2020 fuel regulations and the impact of tariffs have created "significant downside risks" for the stocks. He downgraded Triton International (TRTN), CAI International (CAI) and Costamare (CMRE), all to Market Perform from Outperform, and cut Seaspan (SSW) and Textainer (TGH) to Underperform from Market Perform. He kept a Market Perform rating on Matson (MATX) with an unchanged price target of $35. EVERCORE BOOSTS NVIDIA PRICE TARGET: Evercore ISI analyst C.J. Muse said he believes investors are now more appreciative of Nvidia's (NVDA) opportunity in creating the AI industry standard and the company's "positive feedback loop" within deep learning. Longer-term, he sees tremendous growth opportunities led by the new Turing architecture, which further entrenches Nvidia's high-end gaming moat and presents a "meaningful" opportunity in Inference, Muse said. The analyst, who sees Nvidia being poised to grow EPS at a 30-35% CAGR through 2020 and beyond, raised his price target on the stock to $400 from $300 and kept an Outperform rating on the shares.

Triton International downgraded to Market Perform from Outperform at Wells Fargo
Wells Fargo analyst Michael Webber downgraded Triton International (TRTN) to Market Perform and lowered his price target for the shares to $35 from $44. The analyst downgraded the Box Lessor and Containership group saying headwinds from both the International Maritime Organization 2020 fuel regulations and the impact of tariffs have created "significant downside risks" for the stocks. The implementation of IMO 2020 fuel regulations will likely drive "significant losses" for most container lines, which will eventually weigh heavily on valuations and discount rates across the entire sector, Webber tells investors in a research note. Further, he believes higher fuel costs coupled with weaker container lines create trouble for the lessors. Along with Triton, Webber downgraded CAI International (CAI) and Costamare (CMRE) to Market Perform from Outperform and Seaspan (SSW) and Textainer (TGH) to Underperform from Market Perform. U.S. Concrete remains 'attractive investment opportunity,' says DA Davidson
DA Davidson analyst Brent Thielman says he continues to view U.S. Concrete as an "attractive investment opportunity" following yesterday's short report. While a bear thesis calling an end to the cycle may never completely abate as long as revenue continues to grow, stronger Q2 and Q3 results may help ease concerns regarding cycle momentum, Thielman tells investors in a research note partially titled "Still A Concrete Investment Here." He notes that U.S. Concrete, like essentially all other public heavy building materials suppliers, is a roll-up of local/regional operators serving distinct local markets. Further, he argues that U.S. Concrete's annual gross margins have been stable for three consecutive years, albeit with evident fluctuations quarter-to-quarter. NN, Inc. equity raise removes share overhang, says Lake Street
NN, Inc.'s recent equity raise eliminates high-cost debt, meaningfully reduces leverage, lowers annual interest expense by $21M, and removes an overhang on the shares, Lake Street analyst Robert Brown tells investors in a research note. He believes NN has now recapitalized its business and can focus on fully integrating the Paragon acquisition and driving margin expansion and free cash flow. The analyst thinks the company's upcoming analyst day is likely to be a positive catalyst and he reiterates a Buy rating on the shares with a $34 price target.

Hub Group price target raised to $71 after 'game changing' Q3 at Loop Capital
Loop Capital analyst Rick Paterson raised his price target on Hub Group shares to $71 from $58, calling its Q3 earnings report "game changing." What he saw in the report, and believes others on Wall Street are missing, was the Q3 earnings beat, Q4 guidance 20% higher than consensus at the midpoint, a "pretty obvious telegraphing" of an accretive acquisition before year end and 2019 operating margin guidance that he thinks "clearly isn't reflected in consensus." The analyst, who keeps a Buy rating on the stock, added that "if there was ever a time to take a calculated chance on Hub it seems like now is that time."

The analyst keeps his Market Perform rating on the shares, adding that the proceeds from the sale are earmarked for acquisitions while also noting that the demand and pricing outlook for Hub Group remain supportive of its "strong earnings growth" in the core Intermodal, Logistics, Brokerage and Dedicated business segments.

The analyst notes that the unit's contribution to the stock price was valued around $11.79 per share and the proceeds equate to $7.11 per share, even though he agrees with the company's decision in Mode not being a great "strategic fit". Paterson also keeps his Buy rating on Hub Group, stating that the company's optimizing of its business model may help it achieve its 4% operating margin target - up from 2.6% current level.

Wabash price target lowered to $15 from $20 at Stephens
Stephens analyst Brad Delco lowered his near-term and longer-term estimates for Wabash following the company's pre-announcement on Friday, stating that he sees ongoing risk from both higher commodity costs as well as from productivity issues due to the tight labor market. While Wabash has traditionally said it is able to lock in about 70% of its commodity costs at the time of an order, the company's pre-announcement and Supreme acquisition make Delco wonder if this is still the case, he tells investors. He lowered his price target on Wabash shares to $15 from $20 and keeps an Equal Weight rating on the stock.

Wabash price target lowered to $25 from $27 at Loop Capital
Loop Capital analyst Jeffrey Kauffman lowered his price target on Wabash to $25 after its lower than expected Q3 pre-announcement which he found surprising since "industry volumes and trailer orders remained robust". The analyst attributes the underperformance to "congestion costs" amid production slowdowns for supplier part shortages, truck chassis availability challenges, and higher materials costs that are reducing productivity. Based on these findings from industry participant discussions, Kauffman lowers his FY18 EPS view on Wabash to $1.54 from $1.98 and to $2.00 from $2.30, but maintains his Buy rating, anticipating these challenges to fade beyond the near term.

CarMax named top pick among U.S. auto dealers at Morgan Stanley
Morgan Stanley analyst Armintas Sinkevicius raised CarMax (KMX) to number one from number two in his ranking of U.S. auto dealers, bumping Lithia Motors (LAD) to the second spot. As reasons for the move in CarMax to top pick, Sinkevicius cites the company's market share opportunity, its track record of consistent operations and the fact that it is a pure play on the used car market, which is less volatile than the new car market. He maintains an Overweight rating and $89 price target on CarMax shares, listing Penske Automotive (PAG) as his third choice in the group and only other U.S. dealer on which he has an Overweight rating aside from CarMax and Lithia.

Stephens says home health final rule looking like draft would weigh on providers
Stephens analyst Dana Hambly said he expects the final rule for home health reimbursement to be released by CMS in the first week of November. He is concerned that if the final rule looks similar to the draft rule, particularly regarding behavioral assumptions, it would weigh on home health stocks. For-profit, urban providers with higher percentages of therapy visits are estimated to take the largest cuts under a Patient Driven Groupings Model for reimbursement, said Hambly, who sees the impact being largest for Brookdale Senior Living (BKD) and Humana's (HUM) Kindred at Home. Others that may be impacted include Amedisys (AMED), Encompass Health (EHC), Ensign Group (ENSG) and LHC Group (LHCG).
