Stifel lowers Oilfield Services and Equipment estimates
Stifel analyst Stephen Gengaro said he expects overall E&P capital spending to be about flat in the U.S. market and he cut his forecast for U.S. drilling and completion activity based on the current WTI crude oil strip. He lowered his U.S rig count projections by 50 to 1,050 rigs in 2019 and by 100 to 1,150 rigs in 2020 and he cut his 2019 EBITDA forecast by roughly 10% on average. Wells sees 'rocky times ahead' for Oil Services and Equipment market
Emerging data points suggest "rocky times ahead" for the North American Oil Services and Equipment market in early 2019, Wells Fargo analyst Judson Bailey tells investors in a research note. As oil prices and macro conditions have weakened to end 2018, a number of recent conversations suggest a "quickly deteriorating" outlook for exploration and production budgets, activity levels and pricing over the first few months of 2019, adds the analyst. He believes the case for "much needed consolidation" across the U.S. oilfield services landscape "has never been greater."

BTIG analyst Gregory Lewis lowered his price target on Transocean (RIG) to $14 from $18 and Ensco (ESV) to $8 from $14 as part his broader research note on Offshore Drilling partially titled "Some Coal for the Stocking". The analyst notes that the decline in the oil price has driven offshore drilling stocks down by about 55% quarter-to-date on average, with expectations of activity also being pushed out for the sector. Lewis further states that expectations for an offshore recovery in 2019 were already low, however the market appears to be increasingly more concerned with the possibility of a recession risk. Longer term, Lewis rates both stocks at a Buy and notes some "positive momentum" in the "on-contracted jackup fleet at 314 rigs, which is 3% above the 2018 average and 6% above the 2017 average."

Anadarko selloff brings 'compelling entry point,' says JPMorgan
Following a disappointing Q4 report and "mixed messaging" from the conference call, Anadarko Petroleum shares have been under intense pressure with the stock now representing the worst performing large cap equity on a year-to-date basis, JPMorgan analyst Arun Jayaram tells investors in a research note. The analyst, while understanding investor frustration, says Anadarko "has faced unique growth headwinds" over the past two years, including the 2017 Firestone incident in the DJ Basin and temporary suspension of completion activity, capital inefficiencies associated with strategic operatorship capture activities in the Delaware Basin, and infrastructure bottlenecks in the Delaware Basin amid construction activities for the tankless gathering system. In 2019, these headwinds to growth "are finally in the rear view mirror," says Jayaram. The analyst expects Anadarko's "performance relative to expectations to improve" and he keeps an Overweight rating on the name while reducing his price target to $65 from $67. He views current share levels as a "compelling entry point."

Dominion weakness a buying opportunity, says UBS
UBS analyst Dan Ford said the recent weakness in Dominion is a buying opportunity. The analyst attributes shares trading near the lower half of guidance because investors remain scarred by previous earnings quality and surprise shortfalls. He said the recent guidance from the company suggests a recent headwinds bias, but he still believes his thesis of it being an execution story remains intact. Ford reiterated his Buy rating and $82 price target on Dominion shares.

JPMorgan downgrades Dominion to Neutral on ACP project risk
JPMorgan analyst Christopher Turnure downgraded Dominion Energy to Neutral from Overweight and lowered his price target for the shares to $73 from $79. Since the middle of December, Dominion has experienced an adverse court ruling on the Forest Service permit for the Atlantic Coast Pipeline, pension cost pressure due to weak asset returns in Q4 and proposed Virginia legislation accelerating an earnings test from 2024, Turnure tells investors in a research note. He believes the Court of Appeals invalidation of a Forest Service permit adds "significant risk" to the Atlantic Coast Pipeline project that is likely to extend through at least Q2 of 2019 before a potential favorable ruling. As such, the analyst sees more limited upside for Dominion shares in the near-term.
