JPMorgan's Tusa stays negative on General Electric into outlook call
JPMorgan analyst Stephen Tusa remains negative on shares of General Electric into the company's outlook call. The analyst has a Neutral rating on the stock with a $6 price target. GE closed yesterday up 32c to $9.90. Tusa continues to see "challenging fundamental math." The Power segment "does not turn fast," and Aviation fundamentals, as per free cash flow, are "not as strong as many assume and unlikely to get better near term," Tusa tells investors in a research note titled "GE Outlook Call Preview - Complex and Simple at the Same Time." Further, General Electric Capital Service will likely consume "material cash for the foreseeable future, all while lingering sector-high leverage leaves the company vulnerable," says Tusa. He believes GE management "continues to walk a fine line with many parties to keep in mind (ratings agencies, shareholders, employees), making the tone tough to call." The analyst does not expect "much from a half hour of prepared remarks to change the dynamics."

GE had 'optimistic tone,' but offered little to change view, says Tusa
General Electric's guidance today had an "optimistic tone," JPMorgan analyst Stephen Tusa tells investors in a research note. However, the analyst sees little reason to change his estimates or view on the company, "with more reclassifications than what we would have expected from a new regime." It is disappointing to see that there is no change in structure of GE's guidance, with "officially the widest gap we have now ever seen between consensus earnings and free cash flow," Tusa writes. He believes this will likely sustain itself into 2020, for which earnings will likely be down due to divestitures. It now seems highly likely that consensus estimates will remain too high on forward numbers, "something Bulls can run with today, but something management would need to contend with over the course of 2019," concludes Tusa. He keeps a Neutral rating on the shares with a $6 price target. General Electric in morning trading is up 4%, or 41c, to $10.44.

GE sentiment firming, but stock remains a battleground, says Credit Suisse
Credit Suisse analyst John Walsh lowered his estimates for General Electric following the company's outlook call, but he said he believes sentiment on the stock is firming following what he views as several transparent investor communication events. The company's free cash flow guidance of negative $2B to flat was better than investor expectations for negative $2-4B and the Power segment margin guidance of "positive" was better than expected as well, noted Walsh. He thinks GE remains a battleground stock and expects it to be range-bound ahead of Power execution and broader restructuring. Walsh keeps a Neutral rating and $11 price target on GE shares.

GE free cash flow outlook 'battered but largely intact,' says Barclays
Despite lowering his headline and free cash flow estimates for General Electric following the company's 2019, Barclays analyst Julian Mitchell still thinks $6.5B-$7.0B of Industrial free cash flow looks attainable for 2021. However, GE's equity value is likely to remain volatile given the range of expectations, Mitchell tells investors in a research note titled "FCF outlook battered but largely intact; Divestments cover Capital risk." The analyst hopes that the evaluation of "all options" to de-risk GE Capital leads to more meaningful outcomes than the stated effort to "leverage EFS capabilities to enable Industrial orders." He keeps an Overweight rating on shares of General Electric with an unchanged price target of $13.

Jefferies continues to view Sanderson as overvalued, prefers Tyson
Jefferies analyst Akshay Jagdale expects chicken supply to increase ~3% in 2019 driven by incremental capacity, breeder flock expansion, and improved productivity. The analyst, in a research note titled "Don't Count Your Chickens Before They Hatch," says that although chicken demand has "seemingly improved" over the past month, he remains skeptical about its sustainability given the abundance of competing protein supplies expected again in 2019. Jagdale prefers to own diversified chicken processor Tyson Foods (TSN) "at this point in the cycle" and continues to believe Sanderson Farms (SAFM) is overvalued.

Fly Intel: Top five analyst downgrades
Catch up on today's top five analyst downgrades with this list compiled by The Fly: 1. Fiat Chrysler (FCAU) downgraded to Equal Weight from Overweight at Barclays with analyst Brian Johnson saying he is surprised by the "NAFTA earnings plateau" and views the company's 2020 targets as aggressive. 2. Kellogg (K) downgraded to Hold from Buy at Pivotal Research with analyst Timothy Ramey saying the company's adjusted earnings in Q4 disappointed and it "celebrated 0% organic top line growth for the year citing the heavy lift of reversing the negative trajectory." 3. NXP Semiconductors (NXPI) downgraded to Neutral from Buy at Mizuho with analyst Vijay Rakesh saying with the stock up 40% from the December lows, high China auto inventory and Europe's Worldwide Harmonised Light Vehicle Test Procedure "could present challenges and limit upside." 4. Synaptics (SYNA) downgraded to Neutral from Overweight at JPMorgan with analyst Paul Coster saying the company reported "solid" fiscal Q2 results, driven by further improvement in gross margins, but issued "slightly disappointing" Q3 guidance owing to soft demand in the handset market. 5. Knowles (KN) downgraded to Hold from Buy at Lake Street with analyst Jaeson Schmidt saying while the company can be the dominant player in the market and think its share at Apple (AAPL) is set to remain stable in the future, increasing uncertainty on the health of the global smartphone market could create headwinds to the stock's multiple. The analyst also lowers his FY19 and FY20 EPS outlook to $4.23 and $3.57 from $4.52 and $4.26 respectively while noting that the shares remain "reasonably valued" at these levels in spite of Monday's 22% stock price decline.
