TerraForm Power price target raised to $13 on higher dividend at BMO Capital
BMO Capital analyst Ben Pham nudged his price target on TerraForm Power (TERP) to $13 from $12 in spite of its below-consensus Q4 adjusted EBITDA, saying the company's 6% dividend increase reflects the management's expectations for improved production and "better than expected" cost reductions in 2019. The analyst is keeping his Market Perform rating on the stock given its risk-adjusted relative return, but sees the company's cash flow generating business as stable and its sponsorship by Brookfield (BAM) as promising of new growth opportunities.

Jefferies downgrades Financials to Underweight on 'shocking' Fed meeting
Jefferies analyst Steven DeSanctis is "very surprised" by last week's Federal Reserve's decision taking rate hikes completely off table in 2019. The "shocking" Fed meeting means lower rates for longer, which is not good for Financials, DeSanctis tells investors in a research note. A "lack of catalysts and weaker earnings growth" going forward for the entire sector, not just banks, means an Underweight rating on the space makes sense, says the analyst. As such, he downgraded his rating on the Financial sector to Underweight from Market Weight. Publicly traded companies in the space include Bank of America (BAC), Citi (C), Goldman Sachs (GS), JPMorgan (JPM), Morgan Stanley (MS), U.S. Bancorp (USB) and Wells Fargo (WFC).

The analyst thinks this transaction is likely to expand the M&A discussion around Global Payments, TSYS (TSS), EVO Payments (EVOP), and i3 Verticals (IIIV) and sees paths to accretion should management teams further endorse a scale strategy. Future processing competition could increase among Global Payments, TSYS, First Data, and JPMorgan (JPM), but it remains too early to gauge, he contends.

Wells Fargo favors Perspecta, Booz Allen, CACI in government services
In a research note on government services companies, Wells Fargo analyst Ed Caso tells investors that he continues to favor Booz Allen Hamilton (BAH), CACI International (CACI), Leidos (LDOS), Perspecta (PRSP) and ManTech (MANT) as the government continues its shutdown, though he says near-term outperfomance may be difficult despite being "defensive" names. Caso notes that this shutdown is different than the 16-day shutdown in October 2013, as this time about 75% of the government is funded, particularly Defense/Intel versus none in 2013. Though services providers fell into the 2013 shutdown, then recovered starting mid-event, this time, investor concern has weighed on the group for a few months now, which he believes has dampened the group's traditional defensive characteristics.

Citi brings NRG Energy back to Buy a week after downgrade
Citi analyst Praful Mehta upgraded NRG Energy to Buy from Neutral and raised his price target for the shares to $38 from $33. The analyst downgraded the shares to Neutral on July 30. In a research note partially titled "We Were Wrong. Story Stronger," Mehta says the strength of NRG's model was shown in last week's Q2 report. The analyst boosted his 2019 EBITDA estimate by $300M and 2020 estimate by $150M. He views his sum-of-the-parts valuation of $38 per share as conservative since it includes no value for buybacks or return on excess cash. NRG's "strong execution and ERCOT tightness" drives the upgrade back to Buy, Mehta tells investors in a research note.

NRG Energy resumed with an Equal Weight at Morgan Stanley
Morgan Stanley analyst Stephen Byrd resumed coverage of NRG Energy with an Equal Weight rating and $64 price target, stating that he sees upside to power prices given what he views as the very tight supply-demand balance in the Texas power market. Aside from Texas upside, NRG also offers the "underappreciated positives" of resilient retail margins, an improving balance sheet, and favorable cash flow compared to other commodity-exposed industries, Byrd tells investors. However, he thinks NRG's strong and stable free cash flow outlook is already largely reflected in the stock.

Piper boosts S&P Global price target to $242, Moody's target to $205
Piper Jaffray analyst Peter Appert raised his price target for Overeight-rated S&P Global (SPGI) to $242 from $220 and for Neutral-rated Moody's (MCO) to $205 from $178. Debt issuance in Q1 was a "mixed bag," with "impressive" strength in investment grade and high yield issuance balanced by weaker performance in the loan and structured finance categories, Appert tells investors in a research note. The analyst's increased price targets reflect confidence in the secular growth story and higher multiples in the peer group. He remains a fan of the rating agency business model with a "modest preference" for S&P Global over Moody's given its "more diversified business mix and greater margin upside."

Atlantic sees better entry point into S&P Global, upgrades to Overweight
As previously reported before the open, Atlantic Equities analyst John Heagerty upgraded S&P Global (SPGI) to Overweight from Neutral, stating that the 20% decline in the shares since July has provided a better entry point into the stock. He lowered his EPS forecasts for both S&P and Moody's (MCO) to account for the fact that corporate debt issuance was "very weak" in Q4. However, he also noted that high yield spreads have narrowed quickly since the beginning of the year, which he believes should provide a steadier platform for issuance in 2019. Also, debt refinancing requirements, particularly for high yield issuers, continue to increase, noted Heagerty, who has a $210 price target on S&P shares.
