Fed's Rosengren said it's premature to judge the impact of the tariff dispute
Fed's Rosengren said it's premature to judge the impact of the tariff dispute on the economy, in a Bloomberg News interview. But, most estimates are for a relatively modest impact on U.S. GDP. But, they could have more of a lasting impact on inflation as they will raise import prices, and could give others the opportunity to bump up prices, even if they are not directly affected. That could underpin a more persistent inflation uptick as the ability to raise prices could be greater than in a more slack environment. There could be some impact from the movement in financial markets as well, especially to the extent they have wealth effects and other spillovers. Rosengren is a voter who has become more of a centrist/hawk.
