Schlumberger price target lowered to $53 from $60 at SunTrust
SunTrust analyst Ken Sill lowered his price target on Schlumberger to $53 after its Q1 results, saying that while its international growth is offsetting a "sluggish" North America, the back half of the year also has "low visibility". The analyst adds that his new implied multiple of 11.1-times enterprise value to expected FY20 EBITDA is above the average forward multiple of 10.6-times over the past 10 years, it is also below the longer term average annual high of 12.7-times. Longer term, Sill keeps his Buy rating on Schlumberger, stating that its increased near-term leverage to North American activity should lead to sustainable long-term growth.

Jefferies downgrades three, upgrades three in Oil Services & Equipment
Jefferies analyst Brad Handler made a handful of rating changes in Oil Services & Equipment. "The harder we look at OFS, the more modest the growth prospects seem," Handler tells investors in a research note. This supports a neutral sector view and favors stock picking, adds the analyst. He downgraded Schlumberger (SLB) to Hold from Buy following the stock's recovery as well as both Helmerich & Payne (HP) and Precision Drilling (PDS) to Hold from Buy on a flat U.S. rig count outlook. Handler also upgraded Oceaneering International (OII) to Buy from Hold citing more confidence in deepwater and a "reasonable" valuation, upgraded Keane Group (FRAC) to Buy from Hold on easing pricing pressure and optionality to put fleets back to work, and upgraded Superior Energy Services to Hold from Underperform. Handler's top picks are Baker Hughes (BHGE), Patterson-UTI (PTEN) and Keane Group. The latter two replace Helmerich & Payne and Apergy (APY).

Oceaneering upgraded to Buy, offshore rigs recovering, says Seaport Global
As previously reported, Seaport Global upgraded Oceaneering to Buy from Neutral and established a $13 price target. Analyst Mike Urban said data points to an accelerating global offshore recovery with a 12% jump in global offshore rig counts sequentially in Q1. The analyst believes earnings have likely passed a cyclical low and recommends Oceaneering as a relative play to offshore drillers where over-capacity for rigs is impacting the pace of a dayrate recovery.

Rezvan notes that Par Pacific has evolved from a Hawaii refinery with interests in a private E&P" to an "integrated, three-refinery network processing over 170 mb/d of crude oil, with estimated $65M in annual Logistics EBITDA and over $80M of free cash flow per year mid-cycle crack spreads." Jefferies stays negative on frac sand despite raising price targets
The recent Northern White Sand spot pricing strength should reverse in the second half of 2019 as exploration and production spending edges lower in back half of the year, logistics bottlenecks ease, and more in-basin mines start up, Jefferies analyst Saurabh Pant tells investors in a research note. He sees total effective utilization remaining at ~50% and earnings "remaining flattish" into 2020. As such, he stays negative on frac sand and reiterates Underperform ratings on pure plays Hi-Crush Partners (HCLP) and Smart Sand (SND) as well as Hold ratings on the more diversified U.S. Silica Holdings (SLCA) and Covia (CVIA). "We watch for active short opportunities to emerge through" Q2, says Pant. The analyst, however, raised his price target for Covia to $6 from $4, for Hi-Crush to $3.50 from $2.50, for Smart Sand to $3.50 from $2, and for U.S. Silica to $18 from $15.

U.S. Silica price target raised to $17 from $13 at Piper Jaffray
Piper Jaffray analyst John Watson raised his price target for U.S. Silica Holdings to $17 saying the company reported a "nice quarter" relative to his expectations. U.S. Silica bought back 4.5M shares during the quarter and provided constructive SandBox guidance, Watson tells investors in a post-earnings research note. He believes that if the company can hold its Oil & Gas contribution margin relatively flat over the coming quarters and grow its ISP business, "institutional investor interest could increase." The analyst keeps an Overweight rating on U.S. Silica.

Stifel lowers Oilfield Services and Equipment estimates
Stifel analyst Stephen Gengaro said he expects overall E&P capital spending to be about flat in the U.S. market and he cut his forecast for U.S. drilling and completion activity based on the current WTI crude oil strip. He lowered his U.S rig count projections by 50 to 1,050 rigs in 2019 and by 100 to 1,150 rigs in 2020 and he cut his 2019 EBITDA forecast by roughly 10% on average. Based on the changes in estimates, Gengaro lowered his earnings expectations for the majority of the names he covers and cut his price targets on several. Among the largest target changes, he lowered his price target on Core Laboratories (CLB) to $86 from $110, cut his target on Emerge Energy (EMES) to $3 from $5, reduced his target on Halliburton (HAL) to $37 from $45 and trimmed his target on Superior Energy (SPN) to $5 from $9. Others in the space that Gengaro covers include Baker Hughes (BHGE), DMC Global (BOOM), Civeo (CVEO), Keane Group (FRAC), FTS International (FTSI), Liberty Oilfield Services (LBRT), National Oilwell (NOV), Oil States (OIS), Pioneer Energy (PES), ProPetro Holding (PUMP), RPC, Inc. SunTrust lowers price targets on Energy E&P names on continued oil volatility
SunTrust analyst Welles Fitzpatrick has lowered his price target on select energy exploration and production companies as part of his broader sector note, citing rig count declines, volatile oil prices, and low visibility from delayed 2019 guidance to Q4 earnings. The analyst lowers the price target on Noble Energy (NBL) to $32 from $42 and Extraction Oil & Gas (XOG) to $10 from $22, adding that along with Range Resources (RRC), these companies are "candidates for deceleration". Fitzpatrick also lowered his price target on Anadarko Petroleum (APC) to $55 from $70, HighPoint Resources (HPR) to $5 from $8, SRC Energy (SRCI) to $9 from $14, and PDC Energy (PDCE) to $57 from $65.

Niobrara-focused E&Ps pricing in 'political disaster,' says Stifel
Stifel analyst Michael Scialla noted that the stocks of Exploration & Production companies with significant exposure to Colorado's Niobrara play rebounded following the defeat of Proposition 112, but have since faded and underperformed the broader group as rhetoric from a Democrat-controlled Colorado legislature has investors more concerned about the state's political climate than they were prior to the vote. While he believes greater local control of oil and gas operations in Colorado is "inevitable," Scialla said he does not anticipate significant drilling inventory reductions or cost increases. He looks for Anadarko (APC), Bonanza Creek (BCEI), HighPoint Resources (HPR), Noble Energy (NBL), PDC Energy (PDCE), SRC Energy (SRCI) and Extraction Oil & Gas (XOG) and several private companies to proactively seek a solution to prevent another initiative like Prop. 112 from reaching the 2020 ballot, Scialla tells investors. He views shares of Anadarko, HighPoint, Noble, PDC and SRC as undervalued and maintains Buy ratings on those five stocks.

Mammoth Energy downgraded to Neutral on Puerto Rico uncertainty at Credit Suisse
As previously reported, Credit Suisse analyst Jacob Lundberg downgraded Mammoth Energy to Neutral from Outperform as Puerto Rico headwinds means the company will burn through $140M of backlog and leave the island. Mammoth Energy believes the second half of 2019 RFPs will lead to contracts being let for 2020 work, but given the abrupt end of its work on the island in early 2019, the analyst thinks investors will find it difficult to underwrite that assumption. Goldman downgrades California Resources, Chesapeake to Sell, upgrades Murphy
Within the Exploration and Production space, Goldman Sachs analyst Brian Singer recommends selling stocks where the valuation post recent rallies "appears at odds" with the company's competitive positioning. With that in mind, Singer downgraded both California Resources (CRC) and Chesapeake Energy (CHK) to Sell from Neutral. California Resources has a low decline rate and competitive supply cost but unfavorable debt cost that does not warrant the extent of its current valuation premium, says the analyst. For Chesapeake, Singer sees less favorable supply cost and corporate returns. The analyst also upgraded Murphy Oil (MUR) to Neutral from Sell. He believes the stock's current valuation appears more in line with its competitive positioning. Singer recommends buying "low cost oil suppliers" Encana (ECA), Parsley Energy (PE), Pioneer Natural (PXD) and EOG Resources (EOG) and Chevron (CVX).

Select commodity prices are confirming better macro data, but large supply additions "are a limiting factor on how high stocks can go," Yefremov tells investors in a research note. China macro data continued to improve recently and valuations for the six upgrades are below cycle-average, says the analyst. He upgraded to Buy from Neutral shares of Dow Inc.
