Target upgraded to Equal Weight following recent 15% pullback at Morgan Stanley
As previously reported, Morgan Stanley analyst Simeon Gutman upgraded Target to Equal Weight from Underweight, citing his view that the 15% pullback in the stock over the past month leaves less near-term downside and that the company "appears to be past peak margin pain." Though he is modeling flattish EBIT margins in 2019, which is below Target's guidance for about 10 bps expansion, Gutman believes the risk of a margin miss is appropriately reflected in the stock's current valuation. He maintains a $67 price target on Target shares.

Target's Q1 beat 'high quality, with stronger comps, firmer GM, says Baird
Baird analyst Peter Benedict reiterated an Outperform rating, Fresh Pick designation and $90 price target on Target following the company's "high quality" Q1 beat, as stronger comps and firmer gross margin drove roughly 6% EBIT and about 7% EPS upside. Benedict tells investors in a research note that Target's results reinforce his view that Target's relevance with consumers is rising and efforts to restore positive operating profit growth are gaining traction. With shares at about 12x EPS, prospects for meaningful multiple expansion remain good, he adds.

Lowe's recent selloff presents buying opportunity, says Wells Fargo
Wells Fargo analyst Zachary Fadem noted that Lowe's shares are down 5% in the past week, which he blames on weather concerns and renewed tariff fears. While Fadem lowered his Q1 comp growth estimate to 2.4% cut his EPS estimate to $1.32, and noted that both are now below consensus, he said he views the pullback as a buying opportunity ahead of easing comparisons for the remainder of the year and self-help initiatives that he expects to drive improving results. Fadem keeps an Outperform rating on Lowe's ahead of the company's earnings report on May 22.

Baird says Lowe's Q1 a 'mixed bag,' use weakness as buying opportunity
Baird analyst Peter Benedict called Lowe's Q1 report a "mixed bag," with better than expected U.S. comps that more than offset weaker margins, resulting in a ~9% EBIT shortfall. While encouraged by the stronger top line, Benedict tells investors in a research note that Q1's disappointing margin performance and outlook serves as a "painful" reminder than P&L progress will not be linear. The analyst, who maintains an Outperform rating and $133 price target, says with sales critical and a still meaningful opportunity to improve execution across multiple areas of the business, he continues to see a compelling turnaround story developing at Lowe's and would use today's weakness as a good long-term buying opportunity.

Trex Company's second half and 2020 'looking strong,' says DA Davidson
DA Davidson analyst Kurt Yinger kept his Buy rating and $79 price target on Trex Company (TREX), saying the recent Q1 results from Home Depot (HD) highlighted a "healthy" underlying repair and remodel market with "solid" comps in April recovering from weather related constraints. The analyst expects production issues to weigh on Trex's first half but believes that the back half of 2019 and 2020 will be strong. Yinger cites the "underlying repair and remodel demand/spend", the shifting trend in deck repair to composite from wood, and the company's ability to gain market share with shelf space wins at Lowe's (LOW) along with "expanded stocking positions within the dealer channel."

Natura paying 50% premium for Avon 'not the base case,' says Citi
Citi analyst Tobias Stingelin noted that Spanish website Intereconomia.com reported, citing a source, that Santander's board has approved a loan of up to $2.1B for Natura, which he notes has already publicly announced that it is engaged in talks to buy Avon. An all cash transaction of $2.1B, or a 50% premium, is unlikely in his view and he does not believe that this is the base case, Stingelin tells investors. He believes that if a transaction were to take place for Avon it would be at a lower premium and noted that Intereconomia's source said a deal could still be for a combination of cash and stock. Stingelin has a Neutral rating on Natura shares. In afternoon trading, Avon shares are up nearly 10% to $3.18.

Agile dispute resolution for Twirla a positive, says H.C. Wainwright
H.C. Wainwright analyst Oren Livnat views Agile Therapeutics' outcome from the Formal Dispute Resolution for Twirla as a positive. Since typical wear studies are short one-week Phase 1 studies, the analyst assumes any reasonable study could "hopefully" start before end of 2018 and be done within three months. The Office of New Drugs indicated Agile should only have to show Twirla similar adhesion to Xulane to satisfy remaining adhesion questions before resubmitting the new drug application, Livnat tells investors in a research note. He expects a Twirla NDA resubmission in the first half of 2019, which would only be a potential short delay versus his prior Q1 of 2019 expectation. Livnat maintains his projection for Twirla approval by end of 2019 with a launch in 2020. However, he expects Agile will have to raise money, once to get through regulatory, another before launch, and assumes "substantial dilution before launch." While he pushed out his revenue estimates, the analyst still see peak sales greater than $400M for Twirla. He reiterates a Buy rating on Agile Therapeutics with a $4 price target.

Morgan Stanley lowers 'bear case' valuation for Tesla to $10 from $97
Morgan Stanley analyst Adam Jonas called Tesla "arguably the most strategically important" auto maker, but also one that has "among the widest ranges of outcomes and uncertainty." He estimates that Tesla will end Q2 with total debt of $13.3B and noted that its 2025 bonds have set new lows following the company's recent capital raise. Given the company's increased debt, exposure to China and potential for negative news flow that can hurt its fundamentals, Jonas lowered his "bear case" valuation for Tesla to $10 from $97, driven primarily by his concerns around Chinese demand for Tesla products. However, he keeps a $230 price target for Tesla shares under his "base case" scenario and maintains an Equal Weight rating on the stock.

Citi cuts Tesla target to $191 from $238, says risk/reward 'negatively skewed'
Citi analyst Itay Michaeli lowered his price target for Tesla to $191 from $238 and maintains a Sell rating on the shares. The stock closed yesterday down 28c to $205.08. Tesla's risk/reward "still appears negatively skewed" despite the recent capital raise and stock pullback, mainly on lingering demand and free cash flow concerns, Michaeli tells investors in a research note. The analyst reduced his reduced estimates for Tesla through 2021 to reflect the recent capital raise and the company's Q1 results.

Tesla price target lowered to $230 at Wedbush on Model 3 demand concerns
Wedbush analyst Daniel Ives lowered his price target on Tesla shares to $230 from $275 citing his reduced confidence in the company's ability to hit its 2019 unit guidance given what he calls "major concerns" around the underlying demand for the Model 3 in the U.S. Mixed signals about Model 3 demand "are becoming incrementally more challenging," said the analyst, who believes that the company should be focused on shoring up demand for the Model 3 rather than expanding into insurance, robotaxis, and "other sci-fi projects/endeavors." Ives, who calls the electric carmaker's second half of the year profitability targets "a Kilimanjaro-like uphill climb," keeps a Neutral rating on Tesla shares, which are down $8.11, or about 4%, to $202.92 in pre-market trading.
