KLA-Tencor price target raised to $140 from $135 at UBS
UBS analyst Timothy Arcuri raised his price target on KLA-Tencor to $140 and kept his Buy rating, saying that while the management's outlook is not "awe-inspiring" in terms of gross margins and higher operating expenses, he sees the guidance as "very conservative." The analyst believes that the overall consensus for 2020 revenue is "still too low" since the "process control intensity" was flat in 2018 despite the strong memory investment last year, and he expects KLA-Tencor to gain WFE market share.

KeyBanc analyst Weston Twigg raised his price target for KLA-Tencor to $149 from $143 after the company posted "good" Q3 results with mixed Q4 guidance. The analyst notes that product mix and its Orbotech acquisition are impacting near-term margins, but demand is expected to improve through the year, and it suggested that its prior combined target model is achievable. Twigg continues to view KLAC as very well positioned relative to peers as its logic and foundry customers build out 10/7nm capacity. He reiterates an Overweight rating on the shares.

Craig-Hallum 'encouraged' by Applied Materials' acquisition of Kokusai Electric
Craig-Hallum analyst Christian Schwab is "encouraged" by Applied Materials' acquisition of Kokusai Electric, as it is expected to be immediately accretive to earnings and expands opportunities into batch as the company continues to broaden its product portfolio as the industry migrates to new structures and materials. The analyst believes the acquisition will strengthen Applied's presence in memory and expand into wafer batch processing, a segment of semiconductor capital equipment which has outpaced the growth of the broader WFE market. He reiterates a Buy rating and $50 price target on the shares.

As previously reported, DA Davidson analyst Thomas Diffely cut his ratings on Lam Research (LRCX), Kulicke and Soffa (KLIC), Ichor Holdings (ICHR), Applied Materials (AMAT), and Advanced Energy Services (AEIS) to Neutral from Buy as part of his broader research note downgrading the Semiconductor Capital Equipment group following its "significant" year-to-date appreciation. The analyst cites the delayed recovery in memory along with the "cycle uncertainty" in assigning more "conservative" valuation multiples to these stocks and believes that their risk-reward profiles look "fairly balanced" at current levels. Diffely also lowers his price target on Lam Research to $200 from $225, Kulicke and Soffa to $26 from $30, Ichor Holdings to $25 from $32, Applied Materials to $45 from $55, and Advanced Energy Services to $55 from $60.

Ambarella, Silicon Labs could be next as semiconductor M&A heats up, says KeyBanc
KeyBanc analyst John Vinh believes semiconductor M&A activity is starting to heat up again, and sees diversification into secular growth areas in IoT, automotive, and cloud, and increased scale and customer breadth, as key underlying deal drivers within the space. The analyst expects further consolidation to continue, but notes U.S./China political tensions and uncertainty regarding regulatory approvals could limit larger scale M&A. Companies that could be acquired next include Ambarella (AMBA) or Silicon Labs (SLAB), he contends, while expecting Broadcom (AVGO), Applied Materials (AMAT), Intel (INTC), NXP Semiconductors (NXPI), Skyworks (SWKS), Texas Instruments (TXN), and Xilinx (XLNX) to be the most acquisitive.

Cloudera price target lowered to $9 from $23 at DA Davidson
DA Davidson analyst Rishi Jaluria lowered his price target on Cloudera (CLDR) to $9 after its "disastrous" quarter with a reset of the company's recurring revenue expectations, resignation of its CEO, and weak bookings, as customers await the release of Cloudera Data Platform, or CDP. The analyst also points to Cloudera's higher churn, and increased competitiveness from Amazon's (AMZN) AWS, Microsoft's (MSFT) Azure, and Google's (GOOGL) GCP impacting the quarter. Jaluria cuts his FY21 EPS view to (19c) from 22c but maintains his Buy rating on Cloudera, citing his "glimmer of hope" that the company can reaccelerate growth with CDP or that either a private equity firm or IBM (IBM) would acquire it given the reduced 1.8-times enterprise value to expected 2020 revenue valuation.

The analyst notes that while the company made no further updates on its pending IBM (IBM) acquisition, its recent approval by the DOJ and speculation of "unconditional" approval by E.U. regulators suggest that the completion of the deal remains "well on track".

Moreover, he expects AMD will also realize some more modest benefits on the GPU side, with its GPU business also poised to benefit from a resumption of more normalized channel sales, sales into Google (GOOG) Stadia, console transitions, and a recently signed agreement with Samsung (SSNLF) to share and license IP.

Morgan Stanley upgrades NXP Semiconductors to Overweight on relative value
As previously reported, Morgan Stanley analyst Craig Hettenbach upgraded NXP Semiconductors (NXPI) to Overweight from Equal Weight as he sees relative value in the stock after the shares have underperformed peers by 73% during the last three years. While peers such as Analog Devices (ADI), ON Semiconductor (ON), Maxim Integrated (MXIM) and Cypress Semiconductor (CY) have inventory levels at the high end or even above targets, NXP's inventory in distribution has stayed flat and is just below the mid-point of its target, said Hettenbach. As NXP's business recovers, he likes the company's ability to constrain spending to get it back in line with its target and drive operating margin, the analyst added. He also noted that the stock's multiple is at the biggest discount to peers in its history. Hettenbach raised his price target NXP shares to $114 from $99, but recommends an opportunistic approach when adding to positions given the ongoing risks of the current semiconductor cycle.

Ambarella revenue could be at risk from U.S. restrictions, says Morgan Stanley
Morgan Stanley analyst Joseph Moore noted the New York Times article that Chinese video surveillance company HIKvision is at risk of being placed on a U.S. blacklist, which he said could present risk to Ambarella (AMBA) and ON Semiconductor (ON). Ambarella's total revenue exposure from sale of video processing chips to HIKvision is likely in the high teens percentage of sales, estimates Moore, who added that he expects a pipeline of new computer vision products to ramp with the Chinese drone company. Ambarella has similar high teens exposure to another Chinese customer, Dahua, which was also mentioned in the article, Moore said. ON semiconductor has "small" exposure to HIKvision, with low single digit percentage of sales within its industrial segment, according to Moore. Symantec sale well above $24 per share would be 'huge windfall,' says Jefferies
Jefferies analyst John DiFucci raised his price target for Symantec (SYMC) to $24 from $19 after Bloomberg reported last week that Broadcom (AVGO) is in advanced talks to acquire the company. There is some logic in Symantec as a takeout candidate, "though at what price is the primary question," DiFucci tells investors in a research note. Further, the analyst does not believe that Broadcom's acquisition of CA is a good compare to this potential transaction. DiFucci views the value of Symantec's potential future free cash flow at about $24 per share. Wedbush sees $26-$28 per share as 'sweet spot' for Symantec, Broadcom deal

With the financing seemingly secured from the Broadcom side, the analyst believes it is all about synergies and Broadcom should be able to find between $1.3B-$1.5B of annual cost synergies from "the bloated" Symantec structure with the enterprise segment being the laser focus. From a valuation basis, Ives believes $26-$28 per share would be the "sweet spot" range a deal likely gets consummated and a valuation that many investors would ultimately approve. CDN Tracker data positive for Akamai, says Piper Jaffray
Piper Jaffray analyst James Fish said the firm's tracking of 250 of the top websites leveraging a Content Delivery Network, or CDN, was mostly positive for Akamai (AKAM), which he reiterates as his top pick in the space. The top five CDN vendors this quarter, based on his data, were Akamai, Fastly (FSLY), Amazon (AMZN), Cloudflare and Verizon (VZ), noted Fish, who believes share was taken by the "Big 4" at the expense of primarily Verizon during the period.

Citi downgrades Verizon to Neutral on rising long-term industry risks
Citi analyst Michael Rollins downgraded Verizon Communications (VZ) to Neutral from Buy with an unchanged price target of $62. Rising long-term industry risks and the stock's current valuation premium are likely to limit returns over the next 12-months, Rollins tells investors in a research note. He believes long-term risks are rising for industry pricing and margins given the "widening array of possible outcomes" for the proposed merger of T-Mobile (TMUS) and Sprint (S). Rollins thinks national wireless firms that take more aggressive steps to shape their long-term strategic and competitive position in the industry have a better chance of creating value over the next 12-months. As such, he maintains Buy ratings on T-Mobile, AT&T (T), Telephone and Data (TDS) and U.S. Cellular (USM).

Boeing MAX recertification pushout to increase cash flow volatility, says Cowen
Cowen analyst Cai von Rumohr commented on the potential impact of the expected pushout of recertification of Boeing's (BA) MAX aircraft to late September, saying he thinks the extended timeline will increase cash flow volatility for Boeing and risk of 737 rate cut at Spirit AeroSystems (SPR) and GE (GE). The analyst tells investors in a research note that he now sees an 737 inventory cash outflow in Q2 of $3.5B-$4B with a total Q2 outflow of $1B-$2B and more in Q3, and says Boeing will overall have about 275 completed MAXes in inventory at the end of Q3, which will take time to work through since the priority is to get the 381 MAXes already sitting in fleets back into service. Selling for an 8.5% "normalized" cash flow yield, Von Rumohr says Boeing remains his top pick.

Delta one of biggest beneficiaries of longer MAX grounding, says Stifel
Stifel analyst Joseph DeNardi noted that Delta's (DAL) updated Q2 guidance yesterday was "strong across the board," pointing out that domestic load factor for the quarter of 89% benefited from the fact that the grounding of Boeing's (BA) MAX fleet is keeping industry capacity growth constrained. He sees Delta as one of the biggest beneficiaries, second only to Spirit Airlines (SAVE) and Alaska Air (ALK), as the grounding extends further out given the company's lack of exposure and the industry's competitive capacity dynamics. DeNardi maintains a Buy rating and $90 price target on Delta shares.

Jefferies downgrades Spirit AeroSystems to Hold on 737 Max uncertainty
Jefferies analyst Sheila Kahyaoglu downgraded Spirit AeroSystems to Hold from Buy and lowered her price target for the shares to $85 from $106. The shares have "limited upside" given that the MAX plane represents ~50% of revenue, Kahyaoglu tells investors in a research note. The analyst cut her 2019 and 2020 earnings per share estimates to $6.90 and $7.25 from $7.10 and $7.70, respectively, to account for fewer 737 MAX shipset deliveries. Her prior estimate had 737 MAX production stepping up to 57 per month for Spirit in mid-2020, which she now shifted to the start of 2021. The shift in the estimates is a result of the Federal Aviation Administration notifying Boeing (BA) of additional software changes to flight controls on June 26, Kahyaoglu notes.

While there is a risk that Citi may back away from its 13.5%-plus ROTCE target, neither consensus expectations for 2020 or the current valuation discount achieving the target, Ramsden tells investors in a research note. Oppenheimer sees Nvidia topline reaccelerating to 20%-plus growth
After meeting with management, Oppenheimer analyst Rick Schafer notes that AI accelerator attach remains below 5%, but expects this to "rise materially" in the years ahead as the proliferation of neural networks continues. The analyst sees Nvidia's share of the training market at 100%, and sees few challenges to its training dominance on the horizon. He also expects TensorRT4 to quickly gain share and sees topline reaccelerating to 20%-plus growth as hyperscaler spending picks back up. Schafer reiterates an Outperform rating and $190 price target on the shares.

Wedbush bullish on Nvidia, initiates with an Outperform
As previously reported, Wedbush analyst Mathew Bryson initiated Nvidia with an Outperform and $184 price target. While the analyst is not forecasting a rebound in cryptocurrency-related demand, he believes that inventories of gaming GPUs have largely normalized. Similarly, the more modest deterioration in datacenter GPUs last quarter, as well as an outlook for improved second half of the year server builds, lead him to believe a return to more normal datacenter GPU sales growth is likely. Once these markets normalize, Bryson would expect intermediate- to longer-term CAGRs of 20%-plus, given the healthy growth outlook for both end markets, with significant room for upside in datacenter sales, in particular, should Nvidia achieve its goal of gaining meaningful traction in new market segments including inference and AI.

Qualcomm share ownership 'still worth the noise,' says Morgan Stanley
Morgan Stanley analyst James Faucette said being a Qualcomm (QCOM) shareholder has "always required a bit more mettle" given its history of political and legal risks, but he thinks that at current levels the stock is "still worth the noise." Faucette reduced his FY19 and FY20 estimates slightly because he no longer assumes Apple (AAPL) will refresh its portfolio to include more Qualcomm-based legacy models in late 2019 and most of FY20 and also to be more conservative in his assumption of Huawei's contribution. However, he is now modeling more impact from an uplift in 5G average selling prices and thinks if Huawei handsets are absorbed by other OEMs that Qualcomm could see a positive impact, Faucette noted. The analyst, who projects Qualcomm's FY21 earnings at about $6.80 per share, keeps an Overweight rating and $95 price target on the stock.

Broadcom, Apple deal closes door on Qualcomm/Qorvo, says Raymond James
Raymond James analyst Chris Caso notes that Broadcom (AVGO) disclosed that it had signed a 2-year contract with Apple (AAPL) for the sale of RF components, similar to a 3-year contract between Broadcom and Apple signed in 2016 but now with the latter sourcing "all of its requirements for such RF front end components and modules" from Broadcom. The analyst believes this closes the door on Qualcomm (QCOM) getting RF content in the 2020 iPhone, while maintaining the status quo for Skyworks (SWKS), which supplied the low band PAD and diversity receive through the term of the last Broadcom/Apple contract. Additionally, Caso thinks the Broadcom agreement also closes the door on the mid/high band opportunity at Apple for Qorvo (QRVO) through 2020.

Western Digital power outage gives Maxim confidence in NAND price rise call
After Western Digital (WDC) announced that the Yokaichi power outage will impact approximately 6 exabytes of NAND flash capacity, Maxim analyst Nehal Chokshi said the news, combined with additional idling of capacity by Micron (MU), gives him "a high degree of confidence" in forecast for NAND flash prices to begin increasing in the September quarter. DRAM, NAND monthly contract pricing declines continue in June, says KeyBanc
KeyBanc analyst Weston Twigg says that inSpectrum released its June monthly memory contract pricing, with price declines continuing. DRAM contract pricing for 8Gb DDR4 was down 7.4% month over month and down 26.5% quarter over quarter, he notes, adding that he anticipates DRAM price declines to continue through 2019, though the rate of decline will likely decelerate further in the second half of the year. Meanwhile, Twigg points out that NAND contract pricing for 128Gb TLC was down 3.3% month over month and down 11.5% quarter over quarter, and expects NAND pricing to stabilize in the second half of the year as year over year bit supply should drop and demand is likely to improve. Despite near-term demand headwinds in both DRAM and NAND, he continues to anticipate meaningful long-term growth as new demand drivers, such as 5G, hyperscale, and edge/endpoint devices, continue to expand. Further, Twigg views the DRAM market as likely healthier and more profitable than NAND over the long run given just three main producers - Micron (MU), Samsung (SSNLF), and SK Hynix -, strong long-term demand drivers, and rational capacity expansion.

Microsoft Azure likely never sees AWS-like margins, says Jefferies
Jefferies analyst John DiFucci said he continues to believes Microsoft (MSFT) shares are "materially overvalued," contending that evidence suggests that the widely-held assumption that Azure profit will come with scale, similar to how it did for Amazon Web Services (AMZN), is incorrect. Azure will likely never see margins similar to AWS at scale, argues DiFucci, who also thinks AWS long-term margins may be lower than most expect. The analyst, who admits that Microsoft "is one of the greatest software success stories in the short history of the sector," keeps an Underperform rating on the stock and raised his price target on the shares to $90 from $80. Microsoft shares closed Monday trading up 81c, or 0.6%, to $137.78.

Stifel says 'not much to be excited about' at Oracle beyond valuation
Stifel analyst Brad Reback noted that Oracle (ORCL) reported Q4 revenue and EPS that beat guidance along with its highest operating margin in five years, but he is still cautious given decelerating growth in the apps business, his view that Oracle continues to lose share in the database market and what he sees as a weak position in Infrastructure-as-a-Service. In a post-earnings research noted titled "Outside of valuation...Not much to be excited about," Reback noted that negatives in the company's Q4 report included decelerating share repurchases, a decreased net cash position and increasing FY20 capital expenditures that will weigh on free cash flow. The analyst, who also said that Microsoft's (MSFT) server-products and cloud-services are growing about eight times faster than Oracle's infrastructure business, keeps a Hold rating and $48 price target on Oracle shares.

Pentagon JEDI contract to be 'defining moment' for cloud arms race, says Wedbush
Wedbush analyst Daniel Ives believes a "defining moment" for the cloud arms race will be the announcement of the winner of the long-awaited Pentagon JEDI contract, which is worth roughly $10B over the next decade in this landmark deal representing the cloud "grand prize" for Amazon (AMZN) and Microsoft (MSFT). The analyst notes that the timing on the announcement of a winner could be late August/early September with the ongoing Oracle (ORCL) lawsuit a wild card that could push the timeline out further depending on the outcome. While AWS/Amazon have been in pole position to win this deal over the last year, Ives continues to hear from his Beltway contacts that Microsoft has made "steady and impressive progress" and significantly narrowed the gap over the last six months with the odds of a win looking more like a realistic possibility.

Morgan Stanley still confident in Microsoft's Server & Tools division growth
Morgan Stanley analyst Keith Weiss noted that a key debate about Microsoft (MSFT), which has been stoked by recent weakness in other on-premise infrastructure software vendors such as Cloudera (CLDR), Pivotal Software (PVTL) and VMware (VMW), remains the durability of growth in the company's On-premise Server Products and Tools. However, he maintains confidence in the durability of low-single digital growth in the Server Products & Tools division, citing share gains across the solution portfolio. However, Weiss does note that Microsoft faces face unusually tough comparison in the division in Q4 and Q1 of FY20, leaving him to forecast year-over-year declines in these two quarters. He maintains an Overweight rating and $145 price target on Microsoft shares.

Odeon Capital says Goldman Sachs 'exciting again,' ups rating to Buy
As previously reported, Odeon Capital analyst Dick Bove upgraded Goldman Sachs to Buy from Hold saying that while the 2019 earnings estimates for the company had been falling consistently in the past 6 months, the projections are now starting to rise due to the bank's "strong" showing in investment banking and the impact that rising asset values may be having on the asset management business.
