Marketing agency says social media spending reaccelerated in Q2, says Baird
Baird analyst Colin Sebastian noted that Kenshoo hosted an update call on Q2 online advertising trends, during which the digital marketing agency said social media spending increased 37% year-over-year. Sebastian noted this would be a reacceleration from 27% growth in Q1, adding that Kenshoo highlighted some advertiser feedback suggested a reacceleration of core Facebook (FB) advertising growth. The analyst, who believes this could drive upside to Q2 revenue estimates for Facebook, keeps an Overweight rating on the shares. Sebastian also highlighted that fundamental trends across search and social e-commerce advertising look healthy, which he believes suggests that Amazon's (AMZN) advertising growth is "likely incremental rather than cannibalistic."

Facebook price target lowered to $195 from $200 at BMO Capital
BMO Capital analyst Daniel Salmon lowered his price target on Facebook to $195 and kept his Market Perform rating ahead of its Q2 earnings. The analyst says that while the quarter's results will likely be "strong", the ad targeting headwinds stemming from more user opt-outs and 3rd party platform changes should see revenue growth decelerating through Q1 of 2020 before recovering in Q2 as demand and pricing of the company's Stories platform ramp. Salmon warns if ad targeting capabilities are hindered more "materially", the expected revenue acceleration may be "prolonged".

Snap's bullish commentary bodes well for Facebook, says Deutsche Bank
Snap's (SNAP) bullish commentary last night around its product catalog ad format bodes well for Facebook (FB), Deutsche Bank analyst Lloyd Walmsley tells investors in a research note. The analyst expects to hear "more positive commentary on this theme" from Facebook. If Snap can call out an "immediate" benefit from the concept, Facebook could see a "substantially higher" impact given its "commanding" user reach, 7 million active advertisers, and "best-in-class" engineering capabilities, says Walmsley. He keeps a Buy rating on Facebook with a $230 price target following Snap's Q2 results.

Jefferies boosts Snap price target to $18, still prefers to own Facebook
Jefferies analyst Brent Thill raised his price target for Snap (SNAP) to $18 from $13 saying the company's "impressive" Q2 results "adds more fuel to the bull case." Snap reported better than expected daily active users of 11M and its Q3 guide implies further revenue growth acceleration, Thill tells investors in a research note. The analyst likes the trajectory of Snap's business, but prefers to own Facebook (FB) for its "superior" fundamentals, long-term call options around commerce, and "compelling" valuation. Thill keeps a Hold rating on Snap.

Citi downgrades Verizon to Neutral on rising long-term industry risks
Citi analyst Michael Rollins downgraded Verizon Communications (VZ) to Neutral from Buy with an unchanged price target of $62. Rising long-term industry risks and the stock's current valuation premium are likely to limit returns over the next 12-months, Rollins tells investors in a research note. He believes long-term risks are rising for industry pricing and margins given the "widening array of possible outcomes" for the proposed merger of T-Mobile (TMUS) and Sprint (S). Rollins thinks national wireless firms that take more aggressive steps to shape their long-term strategic and competitive position in the industry have a better chance of creating value over the next 12-months. As such, he maintains Buy ratings on T-Mobile, AT&T (T), Telephone and Data (TDS) and U.S. Cellular (USM).

Citi sees 'several benefits' for Verizon by acquiring Dish
Citi analyst Michael Rollins said he sees "several benefits" for Verizon (VZ) if the company were to acquire Dish (DISH), including accelerated access to mid-band spectrum for 5G use, improved annual programming costs for FiOS, and the potential for such a deal to reduce some uncertainty in the industry by eliminating the "possibly disruptive scenario" for the proposed merger of Sprint and T-Mobile (TMUS). Even if Verizon were to pay $95 per share in a theoretical takeover, the deal would potentially be only moderately dilutive, said Rollins.

Citi opens 'Catalyst Watch' on Dish ahead of potential agreement
Citi analyst Jason Bazinet opened a "Catalyst Watch" on Dish (DISH) saying the company may reach some type of agreement with Sprint (S) and T-Mobile (TMUS) to help facilitate the two firms' merger. This development, if it happens, is apt to be a positive for Dish shares for three reasons, Bazinet tells investors in a research note. Such a deal would reduce the likelihood that the Federal Communications Commission repossesses Dish's spectrum, would reduce the company's liquidity risk, and "may lay the groundwork" for Dish to ultimately transition from a holder of spectrum to a true operating business, the analyst contends. He keeps a Buy rating on Dish shares.

T-Mobile, Sprint news could be coming very soon, says Wells Fargo
Wells Fargo analyst Jennifer Fritzsche has heard from her regulatory sources a decision could come from the DoJ this week in regard to the Sprint (S)/T-Mobile (TMUS) merger. Despite the drama to get to this point, the analyst still believes the DoJ would be more positively biased to approve this deal - with concessions. If the DoJ approves with concessions that synthetically "create" a 4th national competitor, Fritzsche believes it will significantly weaken the State AGs' case against the merger. In her view, the chances of this deal getting done are now well above her prior estimate of 60%.

Morgan Stanley sees 3 reasons Boeing's $5B charge announcement is a positive
After Boeing announced last night that it would recognize a $4.9B charge associated with disruptions related to the 737 MAX grounding, Morgan Stanley analyst Rajeev Lalwani laid out three key reasons why he views the news positively. First, Boeing noted that its "best estimate at this time" is for a return to service for the MAX in "early" Q4, which Lalwani called the first time the company has proactively put forth a return to service date. Second, the company has avoided an additional production cut, or possibly a halt, as a result of the prolonged grounding. Third, Boeing's production update pointed to a ramp to 57 per month in 2020 and the company said it expects built inventory to be released over "several quarters following return to service," which the analyst said supports his view for a path to normalization through next year and by 2021. Tyson plant-based launch not big threat to Beyond Meat, says Credit Suisse
Credit Suisse analyst Robert Moskow says this morning's launch of plant-based chicken nuggets and patties and hybrid beef-plant burgers and sausages supports his positive view on Tyson Foods (TSN). Perdue and Hormel Foods (HRL) have also signaled similar intentions to pursue hybrid meats, Moskow tells investors in a research note. The analyst, however, does not view Tyson's hybrid burgers as a major threat to Beyond Meat (BYND). Beyond's burger products are "more revolutionary and broader" in terms of potential consumer appeal, contends Moskow. Although competing hybrid burgers offer less saturated fat than the 100% plant-based products from Beyond and Impossible, "they simply don't taste as good in our experience," writes the analyst. Shares of Beyond Meat are down $1.04 to $140.93 in early trading while Tyson Foods is up $1.92 to $83.82.

Death of drug rebate rule a win for PBMs and distributors, says Raymond James
After multiple media outlets, including Politico, reported that the Trump Administration has decided to withdraw the drug rebate rule, Raymond James analyst Chris Meekins called the news "a win" for pharmacy benefit managers and drug distributors and "a slight negative" for the pharmaceutical makers. The cost of the proposal to the government was ultimately too high with little guarantee that list prices would go down, said Meekins. However, President Trump hinted something "major" on drug pricing was coming over the next week during his kidney care speech and the analyst thinks the President is planning to move forward with an executive order on pricing. Publicly traded pharmaceutical distributors include McKesson (MCK), Cardinal Health (CAH), Amerisource (ABC) and Patterson (PDCO). Owners of pharmacy benefit managers include CVS Health (CVS), UnitedHealth (UNH), Anthem (ANTM) and Cigna (CI). Publicly traded large cap drugmakers include AstraZeneca (AZN), Bristol-Myers (BMY), Eli Lilly (LLY), GlaxoSmithKline (GSK), Johnson & Johnson (JNJ), Merck (MRK), Novartis (NVS), Pfizer (PFE), Roche (RHHBY) and Sanofi (SNY).

Molina, Centene have most at stake from Texas Medicaid awards, says Citi
Citi analyst Ralph Giacobbe noted that Texas' "highly anticipated" STAR+PLUS contract for the states' higher acuity Medicaid members is expected to be awarded this Friday, June 28. Among the incumbents in the state, Molina (MOH) and Centene (CNC) have the most at stake, as their respective STAR+PLUS earnings contribute about 7% and 2%, respectively, of his and consensus estimates, Giacobbe tells investors. He estimates that the other incumbents - Anthem (ANTM), Cigna (CI) and UnitedHealth (UNH) - have 1% or less of their earnings at stake, adding that investor expectations are for the incumbents to largely retain business.

Iowa Medicaid MCO rate bump positive for Anthem, Centene, says Stephens
Stephens analyst Scott Fidel noted that Iowa agreed to an 8.6% rate increase in Medicaid MCO for the new fiscal year starting on July 1, calling the news a positive for Centene (CNC), which just began Medicaid operations in the state, and for incumbent Anthem (ANTM). Fidel, who thinks the rate increase should help improve margins for Anthem in Iowa and increase confidence in Centene's ability to achieve its initial targets there, keeps Overweight ratings on both stocks.

Stephens raises targets for Anthem, Cigna, peers on HHS rebate rule withdrawal
Following press reports that the White House has withdrawn its proposed rule to eliminate drug rebates in Medicare/Medicaid outside point of sale, Stephens analyst Scott Fidel raised his price targets on a number of managed care stocks, calling the elimination of this key near-term overhang a "material positive event" for the MCO and PBM group. He raised his price target on Anthem (ANTM) to $350 from $335, upped his target on Cigna (CI) to $240 from $225, increased his target on Humana (HUM) to $320 from $300 and raised his target on UnitedHealth (UNH) to $290 from $270. Fidel keeps Overweight ratings on all four of those stocks. He also raised his target on Magellan Health (MGLN) to $74 from $70, though he keeps an Equal Weight rating on that stock, citing the company's softer fundamentals.

Longbow downgrades Amphenol, Sensata,TE Connectivity after mid-quarter checks
As previously reported, Longbow analyst Shawn Harrison downgraded Amphenol (APH), Sensata Technologies (ST) and TE Connectivity (TEL), each to Neutral from Buy, after his mid-quarter checks pointed to downside intra-quarter and for the second half of the year related to declining bookings, principally in the broad industrial markets as well as from the U.S. sales ban to Huawei. His checks show that demand has weakened and auto production cuts represent further downside risk. Additionally, inventory corrections are now set to continue into the fourth quarter of 2019, Harrison tells investors that his checks are indicating.

Goldman downgrades Whitehaven to Sell, removes Alumina from Conviction List
Goldman Sachs analyst Paul Young yesterday downgraded Whitehaven Coal (WHITF) to Sell from Neutral and lowered his price target for the shares to A$3.20 from A$4.30. The analyst also removed Alumina (AWCMY) from his firm's Conviction List but he maintains a Buy rating on the shares citing valuation. He lowered his price target for the stock to A$2.60 from A$2.70. Young adjusted his commodity price forecasts, down for thermal coal, aluminium and alumina and up for met coal, after hosting a China metals and mining tour. Rio Tinto (RIO) remains the analyst's top iron ore name. Young says that while companies in China have noticed a slowdown of the broader economy and remain cautious on the outlook for the second half of 2019, he remains positive on steel demand for the back half of the year due to ongoing strong infrastructure spend, strong machinery sales, and ongoing front loading of property starts.

Tupperware Brands downgraded to Sell at Argus after disappointing Q2 sales
As reported earlier, Argus analyst Deborah Ciervo downgraded Tupperware Brands to Sell from Hold, citing the company's disappointing Q2 revenue and reduced outlook for FY18. While the stock trades at 8.4-times her expected FY18 earnings, a discount to the historical range of 10.8-18.8-times and the peer average of 16.7-times, the analyst contends that the discount is warranted because of the company's inability to generate "significant organic growth" and its "extremely high" dividend payout ratio. Ciervo expects the stock to remain under pressure from continued weak demand and slow revenue growth in spite of the company's efforts to exit its weaker performing segments and boost its online presence.

On The Fly: Top five analyst downgrades
Catch up on today's top five analyst downgrades with this list compiled by The Fly: 1. CBS (CBS) downgraded to Market Perform from Outperform at Cowen with analyst Doug Creutz saying the combination of the legal fight with National Amusements, the potential for a recombination with Viacom (VIAB) and the allegations of sexual harassment against CEO Les Moonves create "too many unquantifiable variables." 2. Caterpillar (CAT) downgraded to Equal Weight from Overweight at Barclays with analyst Adam Seiden saying the company's largest end-markets are no longer at trough. Further, he believes Caterpillar's second half of 2018 price initiatives, directed towards offsetting supply chain and materials cost increases, will limit its ability to expand margins. 3. WisdomTree (WETF) downgraded to Sell from Neutral at Citi with analyst William Katz saying he believes WisdomTree's price-to-earnings multiple can further contract amid mixed flow dynamics and flat earnings growth prospects out to 2020. 4. Adient (ADNT) downgraded to Underweight from Equal Weight at Morgan Stanley. 5. Tupperware Brands (TUP) downgraded to Sell from Hold at Argus with analyst Deborah Ciervo citing the company's disappointing Q2 revenue and reduced outlook for FY18. Argus analyst John Staszak raised his price target on Lululemon (LULU) to $200 and kept his Buy rating, saying the company has "substantial opportunities" to expand outside North America, especially in the China market. The analyst is also positive on Lululemon's strong brand, growing e-commerce sales, and prospects in the apparel sector. Staszak notes that his new price target models a forward earnings multiple of 36-times, which is in the middle of the 22- to 44-times multiples of peers like Nike (NKE), Under Armour (UA), and VF Corp (VFC).
