Applied Materials sales showing no real pickup, says Nomura Instinet
Applied Materials' sales for the July quarter were slightly above original guidance, and the company guided for "modest" quarter-over-quarter growth in the October quarter, Nomura Instinet analyst David Wong tells investors in a research note titled "Earnings - Outlook OK, but No Real Pickup." He points out, however, that Applied Materials also indicated it believes its January 2020 quarter sales could be flat to down from the October quarter. Wong remains cautious on both the semiconductor and semiconductor equipment sectors and keeps a Neutral rating on Applied Materials with a $40 price target.

Piper Jaffray analyst Harsh Kumar initiated AMD with a Neutral rating and a price target of $33, saying that while the company offers an "exciting" product portfolio, he sees its current valuation as fair following a 69% year-to-date stock price run-up. The analyst contends that AMD's data center and gaming markets are undergoing secular long-term growth and offers a positive view of its "steady cadence" of new product ramps, but also sees "limited upside" for the stock given the uncertainty of the current macro and geopolitical environment.

Cisco pullback presents 'attractive' buying opportunity, says JPMorgan
JPMorgan analyst Samik Chatterjee sees an "attractive" buying opportunity with Cisco (CSCO) shares down 10% from its 52-week high. Recent investor concerns over a softer macro outlook and softening Enterprise IT spending following NetApp's (NTAP) negative preannouncement are overdone, Chatterjee tells investors in a research note. Both of Cisco's direct competitors in networking equipment, Arista Networks (ANET) and Juniper (JNPR), highlighted a strong Enterprise growth, Chatterjee tells investors in a research note. Further, Cisco's accelerating sales momentum driven by Campus switching and Security product cycle will allow the company to offset macro headwinds, adds the analyst. JPMorgan upgrades Five9 to Overweight, boosts target to $70 from $59
JPMorgan analyst Sterling Auty upgraded Five9 (FIVN) to Overweight from Neutral and raised his price target for the shares to $70 from $59. Another quarter of 36% enterprise growth, and a stock trading at 18% discount to its closest peer RingCentral (RGN), warrants an upgrade, Auty tells investors in a research note. He believes Five9's shift to the cloud in contact center continues to see "excellent momentum."

RingCentral price target raised to $163 from $140 at SunTrust
SunTrust analyst Terry Tillman raised his price target on RingCentral to $163 and kept his Buy rating after its Q2 earnings beat and raised FY19 guidance, saying its "strong" performance in key metrics and channel investments are "driving the upside". The analyst also notes that the company's Office recurring revenue growth of 42% was "impressive", adding that RingCentral has further opportunities to grow its operating leverage and free cash flows.

Rosenblatt starts Square at Neutral with $68 price target
As previously reported, Rosenblatt analyst Ken Hill initiated Square (SQ) with a Neutral rating and $68 price target. Compared to PayPal (PYPL), he views Square as having more work ahead to evolve the business model and capabilities, while trading at what he views as a full valuation. Investors seem to have some real questions around margin potential and forward growth trajectory following the company's Q2 report, especially given the sale of Caviar, which Hill called "a move we actually like." Hill, who contends that Square's ultimate success will be most directly influenced by Cash App performance, called the stock's current valuation "a stumbling block we just can't get over."

Square weakness a good buying opportunity, says Deutsche Bank
Deutsche Bank analyst Bryan Keane says he believes Square's recent stock weakness is a good buying opportunity, as he sees no change from his thesis that organic revenue growth is stabilizing potentially in the low 40s/high 30s in 2H19 and into 2020. Although Square didn't raise top-line guidance last quarter as is typical, Keane tells investors in a research note that he does not believe there has been any change to the company's robust fundamentals and long-term outlook.

Underweight
Seagate initiated with an Underweight at Barclays
Barclays analyst Tim Long initiated Seagate (STX) with an Underweight rating and a price target of $37. The analyst's negative view is based on the HDD market being in secular decline, Seagate having been slightly behind Western Digital (WDC) in high capacity nearline drives, and the likelihood that top-line pressure and a potential increase in research and development "could disrupt the capital return to shareholders."

JMP maintains Outperform rating on Twilio after third party checks
JMP Securities analyst Patrick Walravens earlier today kept an Outperform rating and $160 price target on Twilio. While limited, checks with third parties suggest that low-level business development reps at Twilio continue to "have so many inbound leads" that they "can't keep up," and do not have to "do any outbound," Walravens wrote in a note to investors. He believes the company's "remarkable growth" reflects the strength of its developer-first business model and its "rapid ascent" to become the dominant cloud platform for communications.

Twilio initiated with a Buy at Needham
Needham analyst Richard Valera initiated Twilio with a Buy rating and a price target of $165, citing the company's position as a "leader in the Communications Platform as a Service, or CPaaS, market." The analyst notes that Twilio has generated an "exceptional" organic growth rate of over 60% and expects that trend to continue thanks to its ability to integrate "all manner of digital communications" within apps of "natives" like Uber (UBER) and AirBnB, along with enterprises in the midst of digital transformation. Valera is positive on Twilio's "early market position", efficient sales model, and the higher level functions of its platform.

Square reported 'notable' deceleration in GPV, says Morgan Stanley
Morgan Stanley analyst James Faucette said the deceleration in gross payment volume, or GPV, growth reported by Square (SQ) this quarter was somewhat disappointing and "notable" given the strong U.S. consumer spending trends reported by other Payments players, including Visa (V) and MasterCard (MA). Combining this with the "deviation from Square's traditional beat-and-raise story" made him less positive about the report, although his calendar 2019 forecasts remain largely intact, said Faucette, who keeps an Equal Weight rating and $74 price target on Square shares.
