Fly Intel: Top five weekend stock stories

Catch up on the weekend's top five stories with this list compiled by The Fly: 1. Disney (DIS) and Target (TGT) announced a creative retail collaboration that encompasses experiential retail and merchandising - including the launch of 25 Disney stores within select Target stores nationwide on October 4, with 40 additional locations opening by October 2020. Additionally, a new Target store will open at Flamingo Crossings Town Center at the western entrance of the Walt Disney World Resort in 2021. Disney store at Target locations will be a Target-operated, branded "shop-in-shop" layout with an average of 750 square feet, strategically located inside Target stores adjacent to kids clothing and toys, replicated online at Target.com/Disneystore and in the Target app, available for download on iOS and Android. 2. President Donald Trump wishes he had raised tariffs on Chinese goods even higher last week, the White House said, even as Trump signaled he did not plan to follow through with a demand that U.S. firms find ways to close operations in China, Reuters' Jeff Mason reported. Meanwhile, the U.S. and Japan agreed in principle to core elements of a trade deal that President Trump and Prime Minister Shinzo Abe said they hoped to sign in New York next month, Reuters' Mason wrote. U.S. Trade Representative Robert Lighthizer said the deal covered agriculture, industrial tariffs and digital trade, the author noted, adding auto tariffs would remain unchanged. 3. The streaming war continues to heat up, with Apple (AAPL) reportedly committing "more than $6B" to original content for its coming Apple TV+ service, Tae Kim wrote in this week's edition of Barron's. Cord-cutting is an unstoppable trend and as Netflix (NFLX), Walt Disney (DIS), Comcast (CMCSA) and other heavyweights battle it out, the best way to play streaming is turning out to be upstart Roku (ROKU), the author said, noting that Roku has stunned Wall Street and the pundits, with its shares soaring 350% this year. 4. Lionsgate's (LGF.A) "Angel has Fallen" opened to $21.3M at the North American box office to win the penultimate weekend of summer. The pic all but matched the $21.6M debut of "London has Fallen" in 2016, not adjusted for inflation. The movie received an A- CinemaScore and 40% on Rotten Tomatoes. 5. Nestle (NSRGY) and Ulta Beauty (ULTA) saw positive mentions in this week's edition of Barron's, while 3M (MMM) was mentioned cautiously.

CVS Health (CVS) downgraded to Neutral from Outperform at Credit Suisse with analyst A.J. Rice saying the stock faces a transitional year as it tries to drive seismic changes in healthcare. 4. Lionsgate downgraded to In-Line from Outperform at Imperial Capital
Imperial Capital analyst David Miller downgraded Lionsgate (LGF.B) to In-Line from Outperform and cut his price target for the shares to $16 from $24. The shares closed Friday up 17c to $14.37. The analyst decreased his fiscal 2019 EBITDA and earnings estimates due to additional promotional expenses related to the Starz international rollout. Further, he lowered his 2020 estimates due to concerns that Lionsgate may guide down, due in large part to recent film performance. Due to the disappointing performance of Hellboy in the theatrical window, and "lukewarm" reviews thus far for Long Shot, the Seth Rogan comedy to be released on May 3, there is a "fairly decent chance" Lionsgate may end up falling short of its guidance, Miller tells investors in a research note.

Goldman upgrades Lionsgate to Buy on 'compelling' risk/reward after selloff
Goldman Sachs analyst Drew Borst upgraded Lionsgate (LGF.A) to Buy from Neutral while lowering his price target for the shares to $19 from $24. The shares are down 24% since the company last reported results on May 23 due to concerns about forward growth, balance sheet leverage and competitive positioning, Borst tells investors in a research note. The analyst, however, finds the stock's risk/reward "compelling" at current valuation levels. He sees four potential catalysts to re-rate the multiple higher -- upward revisions to estimates, improving subscriber growth at for Starz International streaming, balance sheet de-levering, and "M&A optionality" given the growing scarcity of scaled content libraries and production assets.

The analyst contends that given their similar enterprise value to forward revenue multiples, she prefers Roku to Netflix (NFLX) as its "value proposition" to advertisers is on the rise. Martin is positive on Roku's position as an "arms dealer" in the OTT race, which makes it "indifferent" to which service or business model wins as long as it can sustain its revenue share from every service. Credit Suisse sees virtually no impact for AT&T, Verizon from Dish near-term
Following the Justice Department's settlement with T-Mobile (TMUS) and Sprint (S), Credit Suisse analyst Douglas Mitchelson notes that for Altice USA (ATUS), the settlement requires mobile virtual network operator contracts to be extended through at least 7 years post closing, which he views as a "significant positive" for Altice. For cable broadly, Dish (DISH) would represent an "intriguing option" for entry into the wireless business longer-term if CEO decided to sell the company, he contends. The analyst would expect that Comcast (CMCSA) and Charter (CHTR) would wait until the point where wireless pricing and valuations are thought to have bottomed. For AT&T (T) and Verizon (VZ), Mitchelson sees virtually no impact from Dish the next few years as the company will be just focused on scaling marketing of its T-Mobile MVNO while building its wireless network. Longer-term, while Dish might be in a position to deflate wireless pricing, AT&T and Verizon should still have superior coverage, network density, backhaul, scale, and quality of service, he adds.

The analyst believes the bounce back is a positive for Apple and a "solid start" toward above-seasonal guidance for Q3, particularly against a backdrop of a slowing Chinese economy coupled with the re-escalation of trade tensions with the U.S. Nonetheless, Cabral points out that the trade overhang remains in focus as 10% U.S. tariffs approach. First round of tariffs likely absorbed by Apple, says Wedbush
Wedbush analyst Daniel Ives does not believe Apple will pass the costs of the 10% tariff placed on $300B of Chinese goods by President Trump to U.S. consumers on the new smartphones hitting the market this September. All indications the analyst is seeing from the field and across the supply chain indicate the trifecta of smartphones will officially be released in the second week of September with pricing being very similar to last year's models. If the tariffs go ahead as planned this will reduce 2020 EPS by roughly 50c-55c based on his $12.80 estimate for the year, with Apple looking to absorb this first round of tariffs, he contends. However, Ives believes Apple is aggressively looking at alternative options within the supply chain in light of this "U.S./China UFC trade battle" around moving 5%-7% of iPhone production to India and/or Vietnam, away from China. The analyst reiterates an Outperform rating and a $245 price target on the shares.

Yelp CFO departure another indication of possible sale, says DA Davidson

Of the companies he covers, Forte says Yelp is the most likely to be sold given the low price of its shares, the involvement of an activist, and its strategic value to potential acquirers like Amazon.com (AMZN), Apple (AAPL), Facebook (FB) or Alphabet (GOOG, GOOGL). Outperform
Ulta Beauty price target raised to $390 from $370 at Oppenheimer
Oppenheimer analyst Rupesh Parikh raised his price target for Ulta Beauty (ULTA) to $390 from $370 given the company's meaningful overlap with J.C. Penney (JCP) stores that have a Sephora inside and following media reports saying that the latter has hired advisors to explore debt restructuring options. While the company subsequently confirmed that it has not hired advisors for an in-court restructuring or bankruptcy, the analyst points out that he views Ulta Beauty as a potential beneficiary of any store rationalization down the road at J.C. Penney. Parikh says Ulta remains a top pick, and reiterates an Outperform rating on the shares.
