PagerDuty FY20 guidance may be 'less than hoped for,' says Morgan Stanley
Morgan Stanley analyst Sanjit Singh said he sees "a lot to like" in PagerDuty's Q2 report, including faster billings growth and an uptick in large customers, but noted that its FY20 guidance implies slower growth in the second half and "may be less than hoped for." Singh, who thinks guidance reflects prudent conservatism, but also reflects some caution on the pace of new product adoption, keeps an Equal Weight rating on PagerDuty shares and lowered his price target to $43 from $47.

PagerDuty estimates remain conservative, says Morgan Stanley
Morgan Stanley analyst Sanjit Singh kept his Equal Weight rating and the base case price target on PagerDuty (PD) at $48 as part of a broader research note into select software names. The analyst notes that even though the company beat on Q1 revenue and billings, the stock price declined 30% since the company last reported results, likely driven by the upcoming lock-up expiration on October 8th and the greater competitive environment coming price cuts at Atlassian (TEAM) and Splunk (SPLK). Singh contends however that the competitive dynamics will not yet show up in PagerDuty's Q2 results and believes that the management's guidance for FY20 is "highly conservative".

PagerDuty initiated with a Neutral at DA Davidson
DA Davidson analyst Rishi Jaluria initiated PagerDuty with a Neutral rating and a price target of $36. The analyst is positive on the company's value proposition around "alerting and responding" with "multiple" secular tailwinds around software and monitoring solutions, saying that its "rapid growth" taking revenue from $28M in FY16 to nearly $120M should continue. Jaluria notes however that at 14-times enterprise value to expected 2020 revenue, he sees PagerDuty shares as "fairly valued".

Fastly's 'solid' first report overshadowed by gross margin 'noise,' says Stifel
Stifel analyst Brad Reback said Fastly's results were modestly ahead of consensus estimates for most metrics in its first report since coming public. However, this was overshadowed by the company's limited forward guidance upside and slightly lower than expected Q2 gross margin, which was due to accelerated capex spending. He is still a believer in Fastly's ability to drive strong net new customer additions, long-term market opportunity and relatively attractive valuation, said Reback, who keeps a Buy rating and $25 price target on the shares.

Stifel keeps Hold rating, $38 price target on Tilray after Q2 report
Stifel analyst W. Andrew Carter said Tilray's Q2 revenue performance exceeded his expectations and he believes the company's report underscores the cannabis industry's preeminent theme - namely, robust revenue growth opportunity bumping up against a high degree of investment needed to capitalize on a "once-in-a-lifetime" opportunity. Following the report, he increased his FY19 gross revenue estimate to $171M, but lowered his EBITDA estimates to conform more closely to the company's guidance. Carter keeps a Hold rating and $38 price target on Tilray shares, but said he thinks the stock could come under pressure as he believes investors may focus on the wider than expected EBITDA losses.

Vertical Group sees 90% downside in Tilray, says 'back up truck' to short
It is time to "back up the truck" and short shares of Tilray, Vertical Group analyst Gordon Johnson tells investors in a research note. The analyst introduced a year-end 2020 price target of $4, which implies around 90% downside to Tilray's closing price Wednesday of $39.04. The company's top shareholder, Privateer, is set to unload its 72% position over the course of this year and next, Johnson points out. Further, the analyst calls Tilray's Q2 results "horrific." On top of that, the company, which only has two-to-three quarters of cash left, admitted its results are slated to get worse, adds Johnson. The analyst says that in his years covering stocks, he's rarely seen such a richly valued company.

Chinese tariffs negative for Schnitzer Steel, positive for Luxfer, says KeyBanc
KeyBanc analyst Philip Gibbs notes that the Trump administration announced the U.S. will be ratcheting up import tariffs to 25% from 10% on about $200B worth of Chinese goods. All else equal, Gibbs sees this as a modest negative for steel producers as key consumables remain sticky, and a relative neutral for ArcelorMittal (MT) given its global exposure. On steelmaking raw materials, the analyst sees this as a neutral for Cleveland-Cliffs (CLF) and a negative for Schnitzer Steel (SCHN), with the latter in the heart of challenged non-ferrous export markets. He also views this largely as a neutral for distributors, with perhaps a modest positive of Worthington's (WOR) Cylinders segment. Clearer winners appear to be Global Brass and Copper (BRSS), Luxfer (LXFR), and Materion (MTRN), whereby it will be tougher for the Chinese to compete within the U.S. in its core businesses.

Jefferies stays negative on frac sand despite raising price targets
The recent Northern White Sand spot pricing strength should reverse in the second half of 2019 as exploration and production spending edges lower in back half of the year, logistics bottlenecks ease, and more in-basin mines start up, Jefferies analyst Saurabh Pant tells investors in a research note. He sees total effective utilization remaining at ~50% and earnings "remaining flattish" into 2020. As such, he stays negative on frac sand and reiterates Underperform ratings on pure plays Hi-Crush Partners (HCLP) and Smart Sand (SND) as well as Hold ratings on the more diversified U.S. Silica Holdings (SLCA) and Covia (CVIA). "We watch for active short opportunities to emerge through" Q2, says Pant.
