"Box Office Battle" is The Fly's weekly roundup of what movies topped the weekend's box office.
DreamWork's "Abominable" won the domestic box office with $20.9M in its first weekend. The movie is set to open Tuesday in China. Elsewhere overseas, the movie grossed $8.8M from 30 markets for a total of $31M globally. The film received an A CinemaScore and 79% on Rotten Tomatoes.
BOX OFFICE RUNNERS-UP: Focus Features' "Downton Abbey" came in second, declining 54% to $14.5M in its second weekend for a domestic cume of $58.5M. Behind it was STXFilms' "Hustlers," grossing $11.5M for a domestic tally of $80.6M and $95.4M globally. AT&T (T) subsidiary Warner Bros.' "It: Chapter Two" placed number four, earning $10.4M for a domestic cume of $193.9M. Rounding out the top five, Disney (DIS) subsidiary Fox's "Ad Astra" grossed $10.1M for a domestic total of $35.5M.
