Johnson & Johnson Covid vaccine granted emergency approval from FDA »

The Food and Drug… The Food and Drug Administration issued an emergency use authorization for the third vaccine for the prevention of coronavirus disease The EUA allows Johnson & Johnson's Janssen COVID-19 Vaccine to be distributed in the U.S for use in individuals 18 years of age and older. The FDA has determined that the Janssen COVID-19 Vaccine has met the statutory criteria for issuance of an EUA. The totality of the available data "provides clear evidence that the Janssen COVID-19 Vaccine may be effective in preventing COVID-19," the agency said in a statement. The data also show that the vaccine's known and potential benefits outweigh its known and potential risks, supporting the company's request for the vaccine's use in people 18 years of age and older. The Janssen COVID-19 Vaccine is manufactured using a specific type of virus called adenovirus type 26. The vaccine uses Ad26 to deliver a piece of the DNA, or genetic material, that is used to make the distinctive "spike" protein of the SARS-CoV-2 virus, the FDA said. While adenoviruses are a group of viruses that are relatively common, Ad26, which can cause cold symptoms and pink eye, has been modified for the vaccine so that it cannot replicate in the human body to cause illness, it added. After a person receives this vaccine, the body can temporarily make the spike protein, which does not cause disease, but triggers the immune system to learn to react defensively, producing an immune response against SARS-CoV-2. Citigroup is broken-but… Citigroup is broken-but the U.S. banking giant finally might have found the woman to fix it, with Jane Fraser stepping in as CEO on March 1, Carleton English writes in this week's edition of Barron's. Citi has lagged behind the 48% surge in the KBW Bank Index, making it a bank with room to run, the author notes. Fraser has a big job ahead, but it's not a bad time to be taking the helm of America's fourth largest bank by assets, as the U.S. economy continues to recover from last year's COVID-induced recession, English adds. J&J confirms FDA panel recommends COVID-19 vaccine for EUA »

Johnson & Johnson
Johnson & Johnson… Johnson & Johnson announced that the U.S. Food and Drug Administration's Vaccines and Related Biological Products Advisory Committee unanimously voted to recommend Emergency Use Authorization for the company's single-shot COVID-19 vaccine candidate for adults 18 and older, developed by the Janssen Pharmaceutical companies of Johnson & Johnson. The vote was based on a totality of scientific evidence provided by the Company, including efficacy and safety data from the Phase 3 ENSEMBLE trial. "We are extremely grateful to the VRBPAC members for their extensive review of the data supporting emergency use of Johnson & Johnson's single-shot COVID-19 vaccine candidate," said Paul Stoffels, M.D., Vice Chairman of the Executive Committee and Chief Scientific Officer, Johnson & Johnson. "We believe our COVID-19 vaccine candidate has the potential to help change the trajectory of the pandemic and stand ready to make it available to protect the public as soon as possible." The next step in the process is for the FDA to decide whether to grant an EUA for Janssen's COVID-19 vaccine candidate. The recommendation of the FDA Advisory Committee is non-binding, and the final decision on authorization is made by the FDA. Under an EUA, the FDA has the authority to allow unapproved medical products or unapproved uses of approved medical products to be used in an emergency to diagnose, treat, or prevent serious or life-threatening diseases or conditions during a declared public health emergency. If authorized by the FDA, the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention's Advisory Committee on Immunization Practices will then provide a recommendation on the use and roll-out of the Janssen COVID-19 vaccine candidate.
