"Box Office Battle" is The Fly's weekly roundup of what movies topped the weekend's box office.
Disney's (DIS) "Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings" remained atop the box office charts in its third weekend, earning an estimated $21.7M from 4,070 theaters for a total North American ticket sales of $176.9M. The superhero movie sports an A Cinemascore and unlike fellow Marvel Studios pic "Black Widow," "Shang-Chi" has an exclusive 45-day theatrical release.
BOX OFFICE RUNNERS-UP: Disney's "Free Guy" placed number 2, grossing another $5.2M in its sixth weekend. Behind it was AT&T (T) subsidiary Warner Bros.' "Cry Macho" with a $4.5M debut. Comcast (CMCSA) subsidiary Universal's "Candyman" placed number 4, earning another $3.5M from 2,820 locations. Rounding out the top five, AT&T subsidiary Warner Bros.' "Malignant" grossed an estimated $2.7M in its second weekend in release.
