Barclays analyst Brandon Oglenski raised the firm's price target on UPS to $160 from $135 and keeps an Underweight rating on the shares. The analyst upgraded the Transport sector to Neutral from Negative. Fundamentals have "clearly recovered ahead of previously bearish expectations," Oglenski tells investors in a research note. Fiscal stimulus and consumer spending shifting to goods from services has "provided a significant boost" to supply chain activity since the trough this spring, says the analyst. He believes the stocks' risk/reward profiles appear more balanced "as fundamentals move off the bottom."

Loop Capital analyst Rick…
Loop Capital analyst Rick Paterson upgraded Air Transport Services (ATSG) to Buy from Hold with a price target of $33, up from $29 as part of a broader sector research. The analyst notes that his upgrade is driven by the "routine" quarter roll that creates a 24% gap between the current price of the stock and his price target. Paterson is also positive on Air Transport Services as a "back door play" on Amazon's (AMZN) growth as the company continues to grow the fleet of 767 freighter aircraft that it leases to Amazon and operates for the benefit of Amazon. As part of his research note, the analyst also expects a "strong quarter" from the railroads and sees a boost to his long-term estimates for UPS (UPS) from the 2021 COVID vaccine distribution anticipation as he ups his price target on the shares to $197 from $173.

Apple (AAPL) is beginning to use its network of retail stores as distribution centers for shipping products to consumers, Bloomberg's Mark Gurman reports. The tech giant has usually shipped devices like iPhones, Macs, iPads, and accessories from warehouses located across a customer's region or directly from China, but now items that are in stock can be shipped directly to consumers from a network of nearly 300 retail locations spread across the U.S. and Canada, Gurman says, citing people familiar with the matter. The company told employees that the shift will mean faster delivery times for customers who live farther away from distribution centers than from stores, the authors say, noting that the products will be shipped through UPS (UPS) in Canada and FedEx (FDX) in the U.S. via ground shipping. Deutsche Bank analyst Amit Mehrotra raised the firm's price target on UPS (UPS) to $165 from $160 and keeps a Buy rating on the shares. Shares of U.K. contract logistics company Clipper Logistics rose 10% after Bloomberg reported that the company is "attracting interest from buyout firms as the company benefits from the rise in online shopping," Mehrotra tells investors in a research note. The news is a "clear positive" for XPO Logistics (XPO), says the analyst. Mehrotra believes XPO's Contract Logistics business, which represents about 40% of total sales and is where the bulk of its European exposure is, remains the piece of the business that is most difficult to value by investors. Acquisition activity in the contract logistics space would be a positive for XPO, contends Mehrotra.

A fourth judge issued a preliminary injunction prohibiting the U.S. Postal Service from making service changes ahead of the upcoming U.S. presidential election that critics have said could lead to untimely ballot deliveries, Reuters' David Shepardson reports. U.S. District Judge Gerald McHugh in Pennsylvania is among other judges who have issued similar declarations since September 17 after the USPS this summer restricted late trips by trucks and letter carriers and established overtime restrictions, the author notes. Publicly traded shipping companies include UPS (UPS) and FedEx (FDX). Amazon (AMZN), Walmart (WMT) and Target (TGT) are some of the biggest shippers of commercial parcels in the U.S., The Fly notes.
