Apple breadth of services impressive, but details lacking, says Morgan Stanley
Morgan Stanley analyst Katy Huberty said Apple's launch of new services that double its consumer-facing services offerings aligns with our view that services, not devices, "hold the key to Apple revenue and profitability growth over the next 5 years." However, a lack of details on pricing, timing and potential for bundling keep her from changing her estimates until more clarity is available. Huberty, who still believes Apple is likely to bundle hardware/services and/or multiple services, raised her price target on Apple shares to $220 from $197 to account for multiple expansion of Hardware and Services peers over the last 2 months. She keeps an Overweight rating on Apple.

Apple straying further from iPhone-linked services, says KeyBanc
KeyBanc analyst Andy Hargreaves notes that Apple has introduced a new TV app, Apple-branded subscriptions in video, gaming, and news, and a new credit card. Each of these services strays further from the iPhone-linked services that have been the primary drivers of Apple's Services segment revenue growth to date, he notes. While Apple's strong brand and user affinity should drive modest volume to each, the analyst sees limited advantages versus existing competition and relatively limited opportunities for significant impact to long-term profits.

Apple Arcade doesn't pose major threat to game makers, says Morgan Stanley
After Apple (AAPL) announced Arcade, a subscription service for mobile games, Morgan Stanley Brian Nowak said the service does not currently pose a major competitive threat to large game publishers Activision Blizzard (ATVI), Electronic Arts (EA) or Take-Two (TTWO). Apple's service doesn't include AAA quality content substitutable for their key franchises and didn't disclose plans to create its own first-party content, noted Nowak, who said that Apple could potentially be a direct competitor to mobile-focused Zynga (ZNGA). However, the overlap is limited by the fact that Zynga focuses exclusively on free-to-play, Nowak added.

Apple event had little 'steak,' but did have 'sizzle,' says Cowen
Cowen analyst Krish Sankar told investors in a research note that Apple's "It's Show Time" event had "sizzle," but little "steak." He believes Services is a long-term investable theme, and says the event that introduced the Apple News+, Arcade and TV+ subscription offerings suggest a differentiated but gradual approach to establishing future growth vectors. While he says market reactions to the event could be due to the "thin" details on the TV+, he sees perspectives continuing to shift positively as Services grows further.

Bank of America rate sensitivity concerns overdone, says UBS
UBS analyst Saul Martinez noted banks' underperformance since the dovish comments by the Fed earlier this week. The analyst noted Bank of America shares fell and he believes the perception they are more sensitive to interest rates than peers is misguided. He thinks the company should be able to drive mid-single digit growth and solid positive operating leverage even if the Fed is on hold. Martinez reiterated his Buy rating and $33 price target on Bank of America shares.

Societe Generale downgrades Goldman Sachs, Morgan Stanley to Sell
As previously reported, Societe Generale analyst Andrew Lim downgraded Goldman Sachs (GS) and Morgan Stanley (MS), both to Sell from Hold, citing his view that the credit cycle deterioration "has already been set in motion" and that it will pay to be defensive for the rest of 2019. Goldman and Morgan are much more exposed to pressure on market-sensitive revenues as purer investment banks, Lim tells investors. He does not have any Buy ratings on big U.S. banks, but continues to favor holding positions in Bank of America (BAC) and JP Morgan (JPM), which Lim views as the most defensive large cap U.S. banks, he tells investors.

Jefferies downgrades Financials to Underweight on 'shocking' Fed meeting
Jefferies analyst Steven DeSanctis is "very surprised" by last week's Federal Reserve's decision taking rate hikes completely off table in 2019. The "shocking" Fed meeting means lower rates for longer, which is not good for Financials, DeSanctis tells investors in a research note. A "lack of catalysts and weaker earnings growth" going forward for the entire sector, not just banks, means an Underweight rating on the space makes sense, says the analyst. As such, he downgraded his rating on the Financial sector to Underweight from Market Weight. Publicly traded companies in the space include Bank of America (BAC), Citi (C), Goldman Sachs (GS), JPMorgan (JPM), Morgan Stanley (MS), U.S. Bancorp (USB) and Wells Fargo (WFC).

Google's Stadia announcement potentially disruptive, says KeyBanc
KeyBanc analyst Evan Wingren attended Google's (GOOG; GOOGL) keynote at Game Developer's Conference, where it announced a new video game streaming service, new gaming hardware, and intentions to make games. The analyst believes the announcement has potential to be disruptive if Google executes well on the service, and sees it as mostly positive for video game publishers in the near and long term as it increases global access, removes value added by hardware, and increases value of key content. Google's ambitions to make games join other distributors like Sony (SNE), Microsoft (MSFT), and Amazon (AMZN), and could provide some incremental competition for time in the medium to long term, Wingren contends.

The analyst further notes that he had previously anticipated AT&T (T) and Verizon (VZ) deals as "potentially significant" North America revenue opportunities, but now sees "little confidence either of these programs will ramp substantially over the near to medium term." PG&E shares should not be driven by possible FERC contract ruling, says Mizuho
Speculation about a possible court ruling on whether the Federal Energy Regulatory Commission has the authority to block the rejection of contracts under the filed rate doctrine principal should not be a driver in the value of PG&E shares, Mizuho analyst Paul Fremont tells investors in a research note titled "50 Ways to Leave Your Lover." The analyst believes the rejection of purchase power agreements contracts would not add anything to the long-term equity value of PG&E when it emerges from bankruptcy. However, potential savings, which would likely be significant, could provide leverage in negotiations with California State politicians and regulators prior to exiting bankruptcy, adds Fremont. He attributes the stock's current value to the market anticipating a ruling by the bankruptcy court in the next month on whether FERC has the authority to interfere with PG&E's right to reject contracts under the filed rate doctrine principal. The analyst keeps a Neutral rating on PG&E with a $15 price target.

DA Davidson reiterates $60 target on Wayfair citing Amazon 'encroachment'
In a research earlier today titled "Encroachment Is a 5-Yard Penalty," DA Davidson analyst Tom Forte reiterated an Underperform rating on Wayfair with a $60 12-18 month price target. The stock in morning trading is up 1% to $120.89. Amazon.com (AMZN) announced yesterday that it was launching two private-label furniture brands in the U.K., Forte wrote to investors. The analyst sees the news as "yet another indication" of Amazon's intent to expand its efforts in the home category, including furniture. Yesterday's announcement follows Amazon's decision last December to lower third-party selling fees for the furniture category, the analyst points out. Forte views Amazon's efforts to ramp its sales in the home category as an increasing threat for Wayfair. Further, the analyst is monitoring the potential sale of Overstock's (OSTK) legacy home e-commerce business, as he thinks a sale to a large bricks and mortar retailer could also result in additional competition for Wayfair.
